The Russian jet, flying in the region to provide military support for the Assad Regime, was downed by Turkish Air Forces due to its violation of Turkish airspace.
The violation of Turkish airspace by the Russian jet was the last drop for Turkey to break its silence toward Russia's violence in the region

When news came that a Russian jet fighter was shot down near the Turkish border with Syria, Ankara reacted with caution while it stressed that it had repeatedly warned Russia that their aerial activities near the Turkish border and especially against the civilian Turkmen Syrian population was unacceptable.

Ankara also told Moscow that Turkey's rules of engagement were in place and there will be no hesitation to implement them if Russian jets continue to violate Turkish airspace as they have done in the past.

What is interesting is that while Turkish politicians acted with caution and Western powers watched in concern and the Greeks observed the developments with alarm as their own planes frequently violate Turkish airspace in the Aegean and that some Turkish analysts cautioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin would retaliate in some way or another there was a general mood of euphoria among the ordinary Turks who felt "at last the Russians got what they deserved and someone put the brakes on their intransigence..."

Deadly consequences of Russias constant incursions

May not have even been in turkish air space. Too many on edge in too close proximity.
Trouble waiting to happen.

The Russians have been asking for it, Sally. They came within one nautical mile of one of our carriers - there wasn't enough response time had it been an actual attack. It's happened to other countries too. The Russians have crossed that line one too many times and the Turks responded. The Turks on the ground that killed the two Russians while parachuting down - were probably not fully aware of how the Russians might react to that. I suppose there will be some clarification about that in the future.

No, they were in Turkish air space and they were asked to leave 10 times according to the news report I heard about tonight. Ten times.

17 seconds in Turkish air space. How can you even ask someone to leave your airspace 10 times in 17 seconds.

Erdogan is a piece of vile grand caca. And if one takes the time to go across the EU media tonight you will see him condemned big time from Germany to Hungary.

Look they all know Ergodan is a radical Islamist who has been bombing Kurds, buying ISIS oil, helping smuggling Syrian antiquities and waaaaaaaaaaaay more.

The guy is a maniac mother trucker.

And by the way what the heck on him being able to buy ISIS oil and the bloody bastard isn't kicked out of NATO?

Take me to the hospital take me to the hospital.

One nautical mile of our carrier.......................I'd guarantee if that occurred they'd have a few our planes directly on their asses.....................sounds like nonsense to me....................................

While I was in the Navy no one would be allowed that close without being lit up....................and every Carrier has an escort group with anti air missiles up to 150 miles from the ship....................

This sounds bogus...................

I posted the story right here on this board, Eagle. It was one nautical mile. I believe I posted it in current events.

To supersonic fighter and attack aircraft.....................operating in a restricted airspace with many other countries fighters in close proximity............it is easy to stray for a few seconds and forget where you are at......................and cross a line....................whether the jet crossed the line is yet to be determined............maybe and maybe not.............................but shooting it down provokes escalation.............................

This continues down this path...................the shits gonna get ugly................and it could start WWIII............then the next time we discuss this will be with an Akula's torpedo up one of our ships ass........................Note.............look up the sonar bath tub effect of the mediteranian.............

Listen up. I had a discussion that went on all day about it on this very board. Ask Delta. He'll remember. I cannot think of the title but I found the link to the story. I do not remember if this was the original link I used or not but the info is the same -
U.S. jets intercept Russian planes near aircraft carrier - CNNPolitics.com

(CNN)The U.S. Navy launched four armed fighter jets to intercept two Russian Tu-142 Bear aircraft that were flying near the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan in the Pacific Ocean, the Navy said Thursday.

The four F/A-18 fighter jets were sent as "standard operating procedure" to escort planes flying near Navy ships, according to a Navy statement.

The Russian aircraft came within one nautical mile and were flying at 500 feet in altitude while the 100,000-ton warship was participating in a bilateral training exercise with South Korea on Tuesday.

The Navy said a ship escorting the Reagan during exercises near the Korean Peninsula hailed the Russian planes but did not get a response.

I'd have to see it..........and the source......................When I was in.........anyone got within 50 we'd consider lighting them up.............On the guided missile cruiser we went to GQ at 100 milies in the Persian Gulf...................and we would put missiles on the rail and target the plane....................Lost a lot of sleep back then over it..............................as it was Iranian planes back then.

Something will spark WWIII but I doubt it will be anything out of the middle east. I believe China will invade Taiwan - we'll respond and the Russians will back China - that is another good reason we should get out of the middle east and get our house in order here. We need our military here - not out there.

I've been getting under 20 consistently from across the planet from analysts.

No threat whatsoever. But now here comes the disturbing part. Many sources claim that the Turks crossed into Syrian airspace to take out the Russians.

If true. To quote Joe Biden. "that's a big fucking deal"

Pacific Ocean...........nothing new there..............They had 4 F/A 18's tailing their ass............................In the last operation team spirit when I was in, we were on plane guard near Vladiigaskov...................with 3 russian Destroyers right off our ship.........50 yards......................A Bear flew right over our ship and reved his engines right over our mast..............................Yeah that's right................a Bear..............Not to mention the MIG that broke the sound barrier a mile off.............................

Welcome to our Navies having a little fun with each other...................been there done that...................one of the Sailors had a bottle of Vodka and took a swig as we flipped him off laughing at the same time.....................

War games Jeri..........Nothing new here.

I just posted it for you. CNN wasn't the only news source - there were many - it was a very hot story - I heard reports about on the television news as well. It was a very close call.

Different rules out of the combat zone Jeri.............It's nothing new to me..................as I've said..............I've seen it with my own eyes............ A BEAR looks pretty big at 200 feet above your ship.

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

You know better than I do, Eagle. I'll take your word for it. Thanks for the discussion! I'm turning in. Good night, ya'll!
Have a good night Jeri...................Back in the day we did these things all the time.............It never bothered us..............LOL

Sweet Dreams....................

I remember pilots exchanging chess moves when they met in flight.

Right now the situation is far from friendly. No one is playing games over syria.
