Cutting Spending

Why is it so many of you pretend that cutting spending is not an option for dealing with deficits and debt? Especially, when, in reality, it's the easiest way.

Are you honestly telling me you cant think of one program in the Federal government that we aren't spending too much on?

Did we really need to be paying the salaries of all those financial regulators who had their office computers full of pornography while the wall street wizards were ignore financial regulations?

Do we really need to be spending money for genital cleaning?

Why exactly are we spending so much money telling people how to eat?

Why exactly are we increasing health care costs throughout the country?

Why are we wasting so much money through inefficient use of our military?

Why hasn't the Department of Energy been abolished since the entire mission of that department was to make us energy independent and our situation has gotten incredibly worse since their creation?

Why do we have a Department of Education to take money away from the local communities to send to Washington to give back to the local communities?

What the heck are we paying immigration for if they don't do jack about the illegal immigration problem?

Are you honestly telling me none of these programs can be looked and cut even alittle? Seriously?

We need to stop pretending the option isnt there or the option will never be used.

I can think of a lot of programs to be cut, but like with a doobie smoker in prison, I want to see some "big" programs cut first, and stop the namby pandy bullshit. Gut the military budget and bring American troops home and stop the insanity. Then I will stand by you and gut social programs galore.

For like the fourth time...why didn't the Democrats "gut the military budget" when they had all the power in Congress and the Presidency?

because we are at war. and gutting the military budget means soliders do not get the adequate weapons and gear to fight a war. if you want to gut the military budget, simply end both wars and walk away. although the fact that we will have done irrepreiable damage to the middle east doesnt matter, nor does the thousands of american who have lost their lives due to Bush's war. ending a war is not as easy as just pulling out.

We're still at war, so doesn't that same rational still apply...for reasonable people.

Opps, that should have said 'rationale' not rational.

The same rationale that we are still at war for not cutting the military budget.

Obama isn't ending the war...he sent more troops.

he pulled out combat troops out of Iraq, and stated that the Afghanistan draw down starts this summer.... isnt that ending the wars?

So the wars aren't over. When they are, we'll talk about reducing the military's budget.

I can completely agree with that. I think we got our wires crossed on this one, in agreeing, but not seeing it.

Cutting government spending is a start, but that alone will not remedy the financial fiasco.
As Timothy Geithner (US Treasury Secretary says ) -; "It is very hard to reduce a very complicated question to a single number or a single indicator. "
A single indicator "format" CAN be done BUT no politician wants to touch it because of greed.
The FALGAFT Plan suggests this position.
What is really required is a "Quantum Shift" in thinking and approach to all economic pursuits.

I disagree. Cutting spending can very much remedy the debt problem. As mentioned earlier by some others, there needs to be spending cuts across the board, with no exceptions. That means cutting back on military, Social Security, and Medicare too. These three expenditures make up close to 75% of federal spending and growing.

but as you notice, no GOP or Tea Party member will even talk about cutting defense, SS, medicare or medicaid. you will always hear them say "we will have a conversation," but never anything of any substance.

SS medicare and medicaid is not where the cuts should start. Foreign aid is where the cuts should start, and the UN.. and the over bloated fed gov. and their employees and their pension plans.

Did you ask them? I mean it is a good question, but asking us is not the answer. If asking them is not the answer, then it is time to take responsibility for your government & take control. I offer the means to do that.

Good deal. When the wars are concluded, I'm all for bringing a lot of troops home...Germany, Japan, Italy...and all the other places that should be taking care of themselves.

I don't know what we can do about social security...we have a responsibility to those who have paid in.

Medicare...there's been a Medicare reinbursement reduction that has been on the book for at least a few years, a fix that the Democrats figured in to the CBO numbers for universal healthcare, but then decided to extend the "fix" for another year.

I don't know what we can do about social security...we have a responsibility to those who have paid in.

Why? Is it not the people who have paid in their whole lives who have the elected politicians all of these years who have spent all of their Social Security away? I don't think we have an obligation to them at all. Let them feel the consequences of their vote.

since you missed the whole conversation about how SS, Medicare, Medicaid and interest on the debt account for 80-85% of the federal budget, maybe you should educate yourself before opening your mouth. even if you cut the entire 15-20% of the budget to 0, you still will not make a dent in reducing the debt and deficit. hence you have to tackle, SS, Medicare and Medicaid in order to balance the budget. something which no GOP or Tea Party member is willing to do.

The adults are talking...go score political points in another thread.

This is a serious question that needs to be answered. Why are farm subsidies continued and not on the GOP table for cuts?

The GOP doesn't have farm subsidies on the cutting board because their base doesn't support cutting farm subsidies.

Your turn...Why didn't the Democrats, whose base supports cutting farm subsidies, cut them when they had a super majority in Congress and the Presidency?

That is a damn good question. HOWEVER, owing to the fact that the Democratic party is so screwed up that they couldn't even pass a worthy Healthcare Reform Bill with a SUPER majority, I am amazed they managed to get ANYTHING accomplished. That being said, since the new, new GOP is supposedly so fiscally conservative now and so anti-socialistic, shouldn't they be pushing to end the socialistic program of our Federal Government propping up farmers and agri-glomerates with tax payer dollars? It really doesn't seem fiscally conservative to me?

The Republicans can be successful in cutting spending. It wont be easy but they can do it. The usual suspect Socialists/Progressives will have to be dragged kicking & screaming but it can happen. They just need to follow the 'Pledge to America' like a Road Map. If they do that, they will be successful. But it wont be easy. The 'Party of No' will do all they can to thwart Republican success. Just stick to the 'Pledge to America' and things should work out well.
