Archaeology is critical to our understanding of how civilization and mankind evolved. But sometimes, archaeological finds have left researchers with more questions than answers. Here are some of the creepiest archaeological finds ever made.

Sealed Coffins
Archaeologists have found more than 20 ancient wooden coffins near the Egyptian city of Luxor. Each of the colored wooden coffins appears to be fairly well-preserved. They are stacked in two layers, still closed and the inscriptions remain intact. The site once formed part of the ancient city of Thebes, the ruins of which are found in present-day Luxor. The find has been hailed one of Egypt's "largest and most important discovery" in years.

Mummified Moa Remains
In 1986, a team of archaeologists discovered a huge, well-preserved claw that looked like a dinosaurs in a dark cave in New Zealand. This is actually a piece of a 3300-year-old prehistoric bird called the Upland Moa. Before the extinction of large fauna, 10 species of moa roamed the earth. The upland moa was a species of moa bird endemic to New Zealand. It's the largest bird on earth, with some moas reaching up to 10 feet.

Creepiest thing I've ever seen were the full body castings of volcano victims of Pompeii last year:
