Democrats had a hard enough time getting their party unified behind civil rights and voting rights for blacks in the 1960s. I doubt they would have voted for a candidate with any black heritage in him.

Nothing that's happening now would have risen to the level of an impeachable offense in the 60s. Johnson was very unpopular, but nobody wasted their time talking about impeachment except ultra-racist and ultra-left wing groups.
