U.S. troops to have 'super vision' as Pentagon orders electric contact lenses that let them 'see' through drones flying overhead

    • Lenses can let troops see through 'eyes' of drones flying above
    • Can 'layer' target information over view of world
    • Contact lenses don't impede fighter's vision
    • Equivalent to a 240-inch 3D television from 10 feet

Whoa, cool, I want too. I'm using cumbersome LCD goggles right now. With these, tiny 'screens' sit directly on users' eyeballs and work with a pair of lightweight glasses with a built-in translucent screen.

Hopefully they'll have civilian applications soon.

Keep your doors, windows, and curtains closed.

How many servos in those flying gizmos?
How far can you fly from the control transmitter?
    Do they have gyros?
    Onboard GPS?
    Inquiring minds want to know.

Range varies on radio gear. Mine can range up to about two miles (control, telemetry, video) as long as line-of sight is maintained and nobody tries to jam it. Yes, gyros, GPS, and a lot more.

Sounds weird enough to capture the imagination of the techies. I wonder what the long term effects on the eyes are? You have big brother telling us to wear dark glasses in the sunlight and eye protection when we take a pee but they convince Troops to put on contacts that send electronic messages to the brain? What for? Watch goats?
