Conservative Beliefs

Glad to see they include libertarian now, I have always maintained Libertarian is more conservative than liberal.

If we can count libertarians as on our side of the barricades, then the argument for conservative political diversity becomes even more strong, because the two tendencies have numerous disagreements.

I have started another thread on these disagreements, where you may read some of the leading thinkers of both tendencies attacking the other.

Although there is no necessary virtue in diversity of thought -- if something is true, everyone should believe it -- there is virtue in being more tolerant of what appear to be political error, than, say, physicists would be tolerant of someone challenging the scientific consensus.

This is because of one simple truth: politics is not science.

Humans are far more prone to error here, due to the distortion that self-interest can bring to our views, to the fact that our knowledge is necessarily limited, and to the fact that society is so complex that political solutions may have unintended consequences.

Thus it is positively useful for a culture to tolerate dissenters, who may be calling our attention to policy failures, or who may, in "thinking outside the box", come up with new insights on how to deal with social problems.

Alpha1,

You do realize these lean towards stereotyping you fine upstanding righties. That is their purpose. But there is more than a hint of truth in them as well and that is what my psychobabble is trying to convey. If you gave a test it could be multiple guess or one of those fancy psychology test where you must pick what you think of government, welfare, taxes, unions; would a liberal and conservative test the same? For instance, our Government is: you can only pick one, a. too large b. a necessary evil c. inefficient d. essential to democracy - your choice would be? Unions are the foundation of the middle class or unnecessary and wasteful today. My point is the issues are more complicated than you allow and the outcome of your policies are not good for a democratic society. If these conservative memes were not true then Unions would not be viewed so negatively by the right nor Walmart so highly.
You're a hypocritical, tapdancing clown...
You are the one that tryed to make flat narrow statements about something you know little about....
Your point is the issues are more complicated than I allow ??? and in reality its the outcome of your policies that are only good for a <s>democratic</s> socialistic society.

No shit Dick Tracy!

I'm the one pointing out that issues are more complicated than the dopey oneliners you posed...
..I'm the one explaining why your stupid one sided statements are wrong....obviously its more complicated than your inane one liners....

Unions can be and are both good and bad...there are many reasons why some are viewed negatively...try the Teachers Unions....they OWN the Democrats, lock, stock, and barrel...maybe some union members DON'T want their dues to finance the Dim Party...but fat chance they have of stopping that practice...
Maybe some members WANT SECRET BALLOTS, some if they don't toe the line they won't ostracized by the others...maybe some don't like the idea holding children hostage to their demands and shutting down schools...maybe some unions don't like the idea of being infiltrated by organized crime...

Yeah clown...its much more complicated than ranting Republicans hate unions...I spent 35+ years in one....tell me all about it....

Alpha,

But nothing you wrote changes the fact these items are the way conservatives manage reality or categorize their world. That is the point and it would take me little time to find example after example on the right wingnut sites that back up my 'beliefs.' Your ad hominem attack doesn't counter my point it actually confirms it. Notice your use of 'socialism,' that encompasses many of the beliefs. And the teachers are a favorite found everywhere in right wing propaganda. Sorry they still hold.
