For example, in the 70s the republicans were strong on business, and business like war profits, they supported the military intervention in Vietnam.
Liberals are for individual liberties, so were then against the big military build up, and were against the war in Vietnam.

The only strong central government the liberals were for back 20 years ago, was civil rights, but that was really a judicial issue because the states were screwing up.

I lived under socialism in Wisconsin, with many socialist governors, mayors, etc., and they were not at all for centralization.
They were just fugal.
The city buses, school buses, garbage trucks, and snow plows were all owned by the county, so then then could use the same drivers for all of these, as needed. Great system. Saved lots of money over what 4 private companies would have cost.

I agree the democrats have radically changed, but leftist would mean more populist, and I think the change has been more towards the wealthy elite, like bailing out banks instead of home owners, the War on Drugs, etc.

The worst we could do is cause whales to almost go extinct by over hunting them.
However, with the discovery of fossil fuels, internal combustion engines, etc. we started adding over 29 billion tons of additional carbon to the atmosphere every single year. And most of that will stick around and accumulate in the atmosphere. It is not like other pollutants that tend to quickly break down.

I don't see the contradiction.
Globalism in economic terms are huge corporations that can avoid or violate national anti trust laws by taking over under developed countries to move manufacturing to countries that have no labor protection laws.
But social globalism is good because the more cooperation among the working class, the more that abusive industries can countered.

And in fact, the earth would be 40 degrees colder if not for global warming.

How does such a small amount of carbon make so much difference?
It is because the only place where heat can leave the planet is at the upper troposphere.
And there, only carbon is really significant at all.
Water can be a greenhouse gas as well, but normally water vapor will condense out of the upper troposphere because it is too cold at that altitude.
