Cold War View??

Twas the night before Thanksgiving and all through the house, I had an interesting conversation with an interesting person.

Tonight my wife invited her friend and her husband over for dinner. The husband of my wife's friend was very interesting. He is a former diplomat to a country I will not name, but because of his position, he met Reagan several times (I actually take it he was a CIA desk officer) to act as a translator and to provide "intel". He is an old Democrat, that switched to the GOP and now is back to being a Democrat. He worked "in the state department" and he says that the reason he switched was because in the 70's the dems lost their reality in handling the communists and the "east". As he said, "the dems didn't have a clue when it came to foreign affairs". However, he now disagrees with the GOP and is again a dem.

The thing I found most interesting is that he still sees everything through the "Cold War" view. He has been retired for a while, so he is, in my mind, out of touch. Needless to say, we had a great time drinking wine and talking about politics.

Just thought I would share during my drunken stupor!

Sounds like your wife's friend has some brain damage from too much alcohol consumption. From your description of this conversation it seems that this new democrat disciple still doesn't have a clue.

What's bad for America is good for Democrats and

what's good for America is good for Republicans.

Press reports of cleaning up operations in Iraq being significant instead of isolated incidents and false economic reports in America bode well for the far leftist Democrats while the actual reality in both the US and Iraq is good for the middle of the road Republicans and for America.

Personally, I like the guy. But you're right, he doesn't have a clue. As I said, in many ways, he still sees everything through the cold-war prism. I'll give him a break though, as he recently had heart surgery (BTW: I do think his years in foreign service have made him a full fledged alchoholic). His experiences are very interesting to lisent to. He was in Cuba in the late 50's and then when back in the 90's so he talked about the differences there and that was interesting. He said their spirit was gone. That was the biggest difference. That and everything being rundown.

I'm sure your friend has had interesting experiences and conversations about his public service history.

Apparently his experience in a leftist Cuba and its devastating results has not resulted in learning that humanity cannot live like ants or bees where everybody works and takes according to their needs. This is our US Democrat party concepts of a perfect utopican society.

Communism or socialism may work with ants and bees but history has proven that there is no utopia. Mankind must live by the sweat of his brow and use one's own intiative to improve each person's lot in life.

Our Democrat party had a 40 year reign in the United States. Now history has returned the reigns to the Republican party and we shall see if they can rise above their own corruption and bring back constitutional guarantees to a right to life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness.
