Colbert's 'Super PAC' Runs Attack Ad - NYTimes.com

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Stephen Colbert “super PAC” is now officially legitimate: it’s running an attack ad.

In a 60-second commercial that is being broadcast on the CBS station here, Mr. Colbert’s super PAC calls Mitt Romney a serial killer. Yes, you read that correctly.

“Mitt Romney has a secret,” says the announcer, whose deep, distinctive voice people will recognize as John Lithgow’s. “As head of Bain Capital, he bought companies, carved them up and got rid of what he couldn’t use.” Recalling Mr. Romney’s remark that “corporations are people,” the commercial concludes, “He’s Mitt the Ripper.”

Anyone with an ounce of common sense, barring, of course, some supreme court "Justices" (quotes quite deliberate!!) gets it. Welcome to the real world ... the world where corporations and special interests are now "people."

All they're doing is exercising their right to make up anything and put in on the air. Welcome to the new, post "Citizens United" world (just exactly who were these citizens, anyway??).

How ironic it is that the right wing justices , perhaps radical right wing justices, failed, as usual, to see beyond the walls that surround them! Newt Gingrich, who I personally suspect would have thought this was a great idea years ago (now we can really con 'em) ends up being the victim of his own lack of foresight. Who would have thought!!!

What "Citizens United" should make clear to anyone is that the American people should have the ability to fire incompetent justices, and it ain't gonna get any more incompetent than the "Citizens United" ruling.

You reap what you sew ... if you sew intellectual diarrhea, I guess you get what you asked for.

Personally, why not promote the idea that all Mormons are actually aliens from another planet ... Glenn Beck would likely buy it. After all, he derived almost all of his political points of view by viewing the X-Files. It was shown on Fox networks, thus it must have been a documentary!!!

It doesnt matter if your Democrat, Republican, Communist, Liberal, Libertarian, Green Party, or any other ideology.

MITT ROMNEY IS BAD FOR AMERICA.

Brilliant

Mr. Colbert has used his PAC — called either “Americans for a Better Tomorrow Tomorrow” or “The Definitely Not Coordinating With Stephen Colbert Super PAC” — to mock the loopholes in the nation’s campaign finance system. Last week he announced he was handing over control of the PAC to his fellow Comedy Central host Jon Stewart so he could run for “president of the United States of South Carolina” without legal complications. A super PAC is not supposed to coordinate with the campaign it is supporting.

Colbert and Stewart are showing us just how stupid the Citizens United ruling really is.

If money = free speech, and political speech is legally entitled to say pretty much anything regardless of its veracity?

Then capital can flood the public narrative with any lies however absurd, however destructive to the commonweal or to the target of its attack ad, and there isn't JACKSHIT that can be done about it.

Way to go SCOTUS. Way to go!

You are way behind the times buddy.

First here in washington State democrats sued democrats over the right to lie during campaigns/ issues etc. The court ruled only slander laws apply. Note that is a separate issue from you wanting to restrict my assembly rights.

The supreme court is an absolute joke. You have 9 corrupt individuals that try and dictate to a nation of men that what is wrong is right and what is right is wrong.

No, money is not speech. Any idiot understands that a corporation is not a human being and should have little power to influence the government in comparison to living breathing human beings.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

that is pure gold

"I'm not in favor of abolishing the government. I just want to shrink it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub." Grover Norquist

Its time for people to face the fact that there is a right wing faction that wants to give this country to the corporations to own.

Fake? Why?

What the heck do you think Norquist is talking about?

Killing government means corporations will fill the power vacuum.

The people who appointed the last few scotus members filled the court with right wing fanatics who will try their best to give this country to the wealthy.

Citizens United is a perfect example of how this right wing SCOTUS will act for the entire time they are on the court.

The idiots on the right will defend everything they do right up until what they do will unravel the country.

Bush was NOT elected by the people ( he cheated his way into office) he appointed far right hacks to the SCOTUS for this very reason.

They should not even be in the position

its a great lesson to the American people on just what these super packs are adn what they can do
