He's now interviewing Fox News' Greta Von Susteren and the mother of the US Marine who is being imprisoned by the Mexican government.

A “We the People” petition at whitehouse.gov demanding the release of U.S.M.C. Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi from a Mexican jail has (as of this writing) gathered close to 135,000 signatures. In response, the White House writes:

While we will not go into detail about our private diplomatic discussions on this case, U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, have spoken to Mexican officials at the highest levels regarding Mr. Tahmooressi’s case.

Mexican authorities have been very willing to engage on this issue. They have provided prompt and continued consular access and visitations. As a result, the State Department has been able to provide regular updates on Mr. Tahmooressi’s condition to his family, Members of Congress, and the press.

Still, a number of critics of the administration’s action (or lack of action) regarding the Tahmooressi case believe much more needs to be done. Among those critics is Sgt. Tahmooressi’s mother, Jill.

On March 31, Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was imprisoned by the Mexican government for accidentally crossing the US-Mexico border with legal firearms in his truck. Sgt. Tahmooressi has been living under the harsh treatment of Mexican officials for 155 days and counting.

President Obama has failed to request the release of Sgt. Tahmooressi–even after speaking with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto recently. Several US Congressmen have already called for Sgt. Tahmooressi’s release, including Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) who has taken a major role in demanding his release. Others working to facilitate Sgt. Tahmooressi’s release have been ignored by the Obama Adminstration.

Even Tahmooressi’s mother Jill pleaded with President Obama to demand his release. The White House did not respond to comment.

President Obama’s complete disrespect for our servicemen and women is disgraceful. No service member, especially not veterans like Sgt. Tahmooressi who proudly served two tours overseas, deserve this sort of treatment at the hand of a foreign government.
