Just saw this movie as it finally came out on DVD/video. If you enjoy epic crime movies this is a must see. The movie is based on true events but some of the violence is over the top. This movie is so violent at parts it makes Scarface look like The Princess Diaries.
The film traces the life of one boy growing up in the slums of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil during the 1960s and 1970s. Caught between random thugs and violent drug dealing gangs, the narrator attempts to find a life better than the thuggery and violence he has grown accustomed to.
The soundtrack is great and the cinematography is even better.
