What drives them?
I hate to sound callous about it, but we have enough of our own problems. We'd be well advised to clean up our own house before barging in to clean up someone elses.
This type of shit goes on all over the world and we're not helping by trying to police it.
You don't. You condemn these actions. Interfering, as history has shown, only aggravates the problem. In turn, we become more aggressive in our efforts and before you know it, we have more ISIS groups that are radicalized because we interfered, then we have to go for another round of hot war with some radical group in some new nation. That's teh cycle of the war on terror. It's like the war on drugs in that it is never supposed to end. Ever.

Actually, other then a pathetic pressure cooker attack what has been their response since 9/11? Benghazi? Wearing suicide vests into an unarmed school is pretty damn pathetic.

OK, well some have been saying that for some years now. That these desert rats aren't capable of producing terror attacks on our soil in any significant way. The question is here, is whether or not our interference is even helping the situation and for the last what, 12 years now? The answer is a resounding 'no'.

Drone strikes maybe?

It seems that no matter which way we go there is a down side.
