For those not into "Star Trek," the race called, The Borg, are a collectivist species that absorb planets and enslave the populations...turning them into automatons ...

In the Star Trek universe, The Borg are more advanced than any of the other alien races on the show....

This is, of course, silly......the way the Borg operate wouldn't create anything, and they wouldn't be as advanced technologically as any of the other races in that show.......you don't get the technological advancement from race turned into mindless automatons...

And so...some good news about China..... as all socialist countries, in this case from the communist flavor of socialism to the now fascist flavor.....China is a hollow power.........hopefully, the flaws in the socialism of China will destroy it before it destroys the world....

My initial premise is that there is no better system for wealth creation than the free market. Before leftists shackled America with punitive wealth transfer taxes and harmful trade agreements, Americaā€™s free-market led the world in dynamism. It was innovative, affordable, and moved humanity forward in wonderful ways
-----

China too seems to be bursting with progress, innovation, and overseas accomplishments. Except that itā€™s not true; not true at all.

What China has is a totalitarian mercantilist system ā€“ or letā€™s just be honest and call it fascism. Itā€™s no longer purely communist insofar as China has allowed a private sector to develop and it supports wealth creation. However, while individuals can make a profit, the government still controls the private sector, underwriting it and dictating how it may operate. This underwriting allows it to compete in the world.
-----

The ā€œdictating how it may operateā€ part is more of a problem. The government is a terrible manager. Imagine if every business in your country were run by the DMV, except that the employees were treated like slaves. Heck, you can go further and imagine that the employees actually are slaves, living in concentration camps, with the women raped and forcibly sterilized, and everyone physically abused and denied any semblance of liberty.
-----
Slavery sounds like pure profit because labor is allegedly free. However, the employer is now responsible for providing employees with room and board, no matter how minimalist. The employer must also provide 24-hour guard services to force the employees to work. Most importantly, slaves are not productive. The only power left to them is to work slowly and badly.

The Chinese are also hampered by a culture that, unlike the neighboring Japanese, is not dedicated to exquisite perfection. The Chinese are perfectly capable of doing things wonderfully well, but you know from buying cheap, shoddy Chinese goods at every store in America that the fascist work ethos doesnā€™t even try. Thereā€™s only so long that people will put up with that before seeking better alternatives. At the end of the day, youā€™ll do better buying a good $10 hammer rather than repeatedly replacing poorly made $5 dollar hammers.

And of course, the Chinese donā€™t innovate. They steal. Significant parts of their economy are built on industrial theft.

Because their domestic economy, while it looks as if itā€™s booming, is a chimera, the Chinese are doing what all tyrants do when their economies are hollow: They expand, sucking up wealth from foreign countries. Currently (thankfully) their imperialism is economic in nature with the Belt & Road initiative that puts poor countries in Chinaā€™s debt. Eventually, though, those countries too will have their economies hollowed out by Chinaā€™s rapacious policies, all of which are dedicated to funneling wealth to the government.

It would be nice if China collapsed before Western left wingers destroy our freedom......

Fuck the Borg, they began as a great idea by Melinda Snodgrass who when she tried to write the closer to the big 2-part show was voted out for a more mundane solution, and it has all been downhill for them ever since.

But the one thing I want to know is that:
  1. If the Enterprise could destroy 20% of a Borg cube with just one phaser blast, how did the Federation ever get threatened by them at all?
  2. If all the Borg are interested in is your technology, why do they keep assimilating civilizations?
  3. Why does the Borg queen enjoy pleasure and have a personality when none of the others do? And most of all:
  4. If the Borg have assimilated all these thousands of species, why does every Borg just look like a human actor wearing rubber hoses? Where are the other species?
  5. and Who ever let Gates McFadden back on the series after dumping her ass for the far better Diana Muldaur?

......
  1. and Who ever let Gates McFadden back on the series after dumping her ass for the far better Diana Muldaur?

Are you crazy? She was teeeeeeeeerible. All her character did was a piss-poor Dr. McCoy imitation. Besides, if they were looking to cook up some sexual tension between the captain and the doctor, no one was going to believe her in that role.

No, Melinda wrote them into the script where they took Picard but Hurley didn't like her solution so wrote the settlement where they put the Borg to sleep, which she really hated and I think drove her off the show or nearly so. Maybe Hurley is the one who originally thought them up in an earlier season.

To my mind she was a far better doctor, a much better actor and much more interesting character who brought much more to the show. Fuck the chat rooms.

McFadden belonged with Denise Crosby, in the unemployment line.

Oh believe me Harry, I don't get ANY info through these places you mention, I know of Memory Alpha, etc., and have looked at it, I have extensive study and research on the TV show from a production point of view and the falling out with Melinda over the Borg was mentioned long ago by an industry insider, maybe in the three volume hardback set on the production notes of each episode.

If you watch the 2 part Borg episode, you'll note a distinct difference in the show's tension between the two parts, between the first part where the Borg are essentially unstoppable and the 2nd part where basically, they discover they can just put them to sleep any time they want!

Almost as bad as just being able to insert a virus in their program!

Damn clever those humans: coming up with ideas no other species in the galaxy ever thought of! That's almost as bad as being THAT vulnerable and still taking over nearly half the galaxy.

Yeah, if not for the fanbase, ther show would have disappeared after one season in 1967 never to be thought of or heard from again. But there is a difference between keeping abreast and getting it all down pat typed out verbatim on a website.

you don't get the technological advancement from race turned into mindless automatons...
Exactly. The klingons would still be a hunter gatherer species and the Ferengi would be Jewish pawnshop owners.

Actually, the Ferengi woul likely be the most powerful race in that show.......their competitive nature would have given them the advantage over the federation, the romulans and the klingons, they would have had the best military and the best technology..

You are right about the Klingons.....they wouldn't have had the ability to develop their tech base because of their culture......

In the Star Trek universe, The Borg are more advanced than any of the other alien races on the show....

Actually, in Star Trek: Voyager, another alien race was introduced that was able to seriously kick the Borgs' asses.

I remember the episode, a Borg ship approaching these aliens, and broadcasting to them its usual ā€œYou will be assimilatedā€¦resistance is futileā€ message, before being blown to pieces in response.

This is, of course, silly......the way the Borg operate wouldn't create anything, and they wouldn't be as advanced technologically as any of the other races in that show.......you don't get the technological advancement from race turned into mindless automatons...

There's a deeper flaw than that with how the Borg are depicted.

With the Borg, ā€œResistance is futile!ā€

Everything that uses electricity depends on the working of Ohm's Law, which describes the relation between voltage, current, and resistance.

If ā€œResistance is futile!ā€, then Ohm's Law would also be futile, and nothing that depends on it would work. So, the Borg would be unable to use the vast majority of the technology that they are trying to assimilate.

I think the Ferengi were born of a left wrong-wing desire to depict capitalism in an unfavorable way, with the intent that a great threat to the Federation's interests would come from these creatures meant to fulfill the ideal LIbtARd of greedy capitalists.

It kind of backfired. The audience didn't see them the way the writers meant, and they ended up being comic relief rather than serious villains.

the only problem with that is the Ferengi were cowards.....

And that is what is wrong with the characterisation of the Ferengi......venture capitalists, the sort the Ferengi are, are not cowards, and, in fact, they are real risk takers in any society.......
