It all remains to be seen.
China knows the current political scene in America. It placed hopes that their friends in American corporate media pronouncing the end of the world as we know it would send enough political pressure to Trump and he would be forced to back off.
That hasn't work.
This could also be "Plan B". In which they will appear to be ready to deal, everyone breathes a sigh of relief...but wait....there's more.... China is not really serious. What they will do is set the stage for making it look like they wanted to make a deal but the crazy orange man wouldn't do it.... and that will increase the pressure on Trump even more.
And that scenario... seems more realistic to me.
