Is it cold weather, or Liberal policy?

This isn't exactly scientific or a good comparison since you have no real control, if everything else about the cities was identical-you'd have a point. But your stats are flawed...the most obvious one being that you're only comparing the population in the actual cities rather than the metro areas as a whole. Taking numbers this way Jacksonville is the most populated city in Florida...but we all know that Miami, Tampa, and Orlando are much bigger.

Chicago's metro area is roughly 50% larger than Houston's (9.5 million to 6.7 million). That's a big difference.

Also you list the median HH income...but without a cost of living (Chicago being 13th in North America, Houston being 41st). You're presenting the two cities as if they were equals in SES, when that's just not the case.

PS: I'm 100% for concealed weapons licenses, gun stores, own guns, and think that gun laws in cities like Chicago are way too restrictive...but let's keep our arguments sound.

Crime tends to go down in cold weather. When it's cold, the punks are inside keeping warm, rather than running around shooting people.
