Canada aims to open doors to 265,000 immigrants in 2014

OTTAWA — The feds have set a goal of bringing in up to 265,000 immigrants to Canada next year.

The new goal is in the immigration department's 2013 annual report that Immigration Minister Chris Alexander tabled in the Commons on Monday.

That's a level surpassed only once since 1988 — in 2010, when the country opened its doors to more than 280,000 newcomers.

"We're very proud to be continuing the strongest sustained levels of immigration, particularly economic immigration, in Canadian history," Alexander said.

Since the Conservatives took office in 2006, almost 1.8 million newcomers have become permanent Canadian residents - most on their way to eventual citizenship.

Canada has been allowing 250,000 immigrants a year IIRC.

By 2030, according to Statistics Canada, more than 80% of Canada’s population growth is expected to depend on immigration. Ethnic enclaves are set to fill up faster and longer than ever before.

In 1981, Canada had only six neighbourhoods with ethnic enclaves (neighbourhoods where more than 30% of the population is a visible minority). Now, that number has mushroomed to more than 260. In cities like Vancouver, home to nearly half of these enclaves, neighbourhoods are becoming increasingly defined by ethnicity.

Population growth?

More people on the already crowded roads...cottages turned into concrete jungle apartment buildings...etc etc etc.

Did not your Quebec people used to have giant families with more than ten kids?
What happened?
