California Passes Measure Requiring Presidential Candidates To Release Tax Returns

Yet every state has requirements to be on their ballot. Nobody ever whined before
That's the way it usually happens. Little by little, until we're all slaves.

By your standard, no one should have the right to complain when Mississippi makes a race requirement and a civics test to be placed on the ballot.

.

Doing so on race would violate the Constitution.

If Gov. Gavin Newsom signs the bill, Donald Trump would have to release his taxes in order to get on the state’s 2020 primary ballot.

The California Legislature has overwhelmingly passed a measure requiring all presidential and gubernatorial candidates to release their tax returns to get on the primary ballot, which could shake things up for President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

The Presidential Tax Transparency & Accountability Act, SB 27, would require that the candidates release the previous five years of their returns. The bill passed 57-17 in the Assembly on Tuesday and 29-10 in the state Senate Thursday. It now awaits the signature of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom to become law.

The measure includes an urgency clause, which would allow the legislation to take effect immediately, in time for the 2020 election, reports ABC-7 News.

Great news! Hopefully more states will follow.
States cannot place requirements on federal elections

The only way to do that is to amend the Constitution

Yet every state has requirements to be on their ballot. Nobody ever whined before

Because until now they never sought to supersede the Constitution.

The Constitution clearly states the requirements to be eligible to be elected President. The States cannot override that

Every state has made collecting signatures a qualification to be on their ballot.

There is no constitutional requirement for signatures.

The Supreme Court has already squashed state efforts to influence congressional elections

There is simply no justifiable cause to force people to disclose private documents to the public in order to run for any federal office.
