To an extent it was quite a bit about Brexit. Labour largely avoided the issue like a plague as other than a do-over vote, they were more seen as obstructionists as opposed to having a cohesive position. JC will be the scapegoat explanation (not completely undeserving) , but the fundamental problem is that Labour has moved from the party of the working class to being the party of the posh and politically correct.
