I've long argued we need to end the use of police dogs used like this as it proves very little.

When a cop wants to search they will get the dog to react in a way that gives them an excuse.

When nothing is found its all forgot. When it is, well the dog did its job. It's little more than a random illegal search.

Can a dog alert to something in an enclosed environment? Probably. Out on the street there are scents everywhere.

It needs to end.

Dogs can certainly alert to something they are trained to alert to on the street…

With that said you can still have bad cops do stuff like this cop did.

As we have scene repeatedly, with folks like McCabe, Comey and on down the line to officers on patrol, bad cops make the system fail
