....a lot of these ''people'' [ black and white ] do not have the mental capacity/upbringing/etc to do the most basic common sense thinking
..add in the hate of and leery of cops [ justified or unjustified--doesn't matter ] you get HUMANS that will do stupid-nonsensical stuff....completely opposite of what normal/rational people, such as you and I, would do
....some of these criminals/idiots can live and act ''normally''--but their thinking skills are not high

..also, they are more prone to violence--because of socioeconomic and/or physiological reasons
--all adds up to these people '''thinking'' irrationally/nonsensically
