The Christian share of adults in the United States has declined sharply since 2007, affecting nearly all major Christian traditions and denominations, and crossing age, race and region, according to an extensive survey by the Pew Research Center.

Ok, I think this decline is obvious.
Some of the factors in this decline:
There are more former Christians than ever — they now represent 19% of the unaffiliated group.
People are more affluent.
People are more educated.
Better economic development.
The politicization of religion.
Let`s take a closer look at some of this.
People are more educated. Is it really true that most intelligent and well-informed people are atheists, while people of faith tend to be unschooled and credulous? Well, what about religious famous smart and educated people? Here is some info: The 50 Smartest People of Faith The Best Schools
But it is noteworthy that some scientists assume IQ influences religiosity rather than vice-versa, which seems plausible: IQ levels remain very stable after childhood, whereas religiosity levels keep fluctuating – childhood IQ predicts adult IQ, but childhood religiosity is a very poor predictor of adult religiosity.
Where is the truth?
And what are the real reasons for decline?
