i believe reagan tried that. gave amnesty in order to get this, he asked the Dems to go after employers. from what i recall, an agreement was reached, he kept his end, the dems decided that wasn't necessary after all.

The problem with new walls is there's a lot of court action because it would have to be built on private land. While a lot of ranchers in Texas welcome such a wall, others will fight to keep it off their property. Existing walls are not much of a problem. Those issues were settled many years ago.
