It appears that Austrians, like many Europeans, are fed up with the things their politicians have brought upon them. The anti-immigration blocs are rising up and it's going to cause a lot of changes.
That’s not just a “victory” for Hofer… that’s what some of our more blunt friend here at home would call a proper, old fashioned butt whooping. Further, while this is only the preliminary phase of the election process for Austria, the coalition currently in control didn’t even garner enough support to make it into the runoff election one month from now. Whatever the electorate looks like when all the dust settles, it’s not going to be a win for those supporting the current, immigrant friendly parties.

The reason why Herr Hofer didn't win on the first round, why this must enter a second round, this is because of Irmgard Griss, if you look she got 18.52% of the vote.
Now, Irmgard Griss, she's a Judge and the former President of Oberster Gerichtshof, the Supreme Court of Justice and currently the Deputy President of Verfassungsgerichtshof, this is our Constitutional Court....as an added comment, I add our Constitutional Court is the oldest in the world.
Frau Griss wanted to run as the FPÖ candidate, but she was told that Herr Hofer had already been chosen as the candidate.
What then happened, she got into a sulk and decided to run as an Independent, and as you can notice, she got 18.52% of the vote. To avoid a second round, a candidate must get 50% of the vote, as you can also see Herr Hofer got 36.40%. If Frau Griss hadn't of run as an Independent, her voters would have voted for Herr Hofer, which would have given him more than the 50% he needed to win on the first round.
What needs to happen now, Frau Griss needs to get with the programme and publicly endorse Herr Hofer and tell the people who voted for her to vote for him in the second round....this is important, she must think of our nation and be a Patriot.
Frau Griss isn't a stupid woman, she graduated from Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, this is the University of Graz, she also has an LL.M., from Harvard Law School and she was the President of our Supreme Court of Justice and the current Deputy President of our Constitutional Court, so this isn't a stupid woman.
Also Herr Hofer must play on the fact that the Green running as an Independent, Alexander Van der Bellen isn't a proper Austrian, his father was Dutch and his mother was Estonian, Alexander Van der Bellen's Heritage therefore isn't Austrian, just because he was born in Wien doesn't MEAN he's one of us....he's an Ausländer....as such he can never be considered a Patriot or even trusted.
