It appears that Austrians, like many Europeans, are fed up with the things their politicians have brought upon them. The anti-immigration blocs are rising up and it's going to cause a lot of changes.

That’s not just a “victory” for Hofer… that’s what some of our more blunt friend here at home would call a proper, old fashioned butt whooping. Further, while this is only the preliminary phase of the election process for Austria, the coalition currently in control didn’t even garner enough support to make it into the runoff election one month from now. Whatever the electorate looks like when all the dust settles, it’s not going to be a win for those supporting the current, immigrant friendly parties.

Who is Norbert Hofer, and why does he matter? @ Who is Norbert Hofer, and why does he matter?

They call him a far right winger simply because he doesn't want to see his nation overrun by Muslims.

Yes, although I can't comment, ANY and ALL questions about my nation, just ask Longknife, he's the "expert"

Weeelllll, that's nice.

I just happy to see anti-immigration parties winning and pro-immigration parties losing.

I'm just sorry there weren't any injuries of the rioting socialists.

Especially any serious injuries.

Injuries that cause horrible pain for very long periods of time....

Well I would comment about this, but as I'm an Austrian, what do I know....how could I know more than you Americans about my nation :rolleyes-41:

I specifically posted this to read your comments and reactions about it.

As we've now cleared up, the unfortunate situation, I have deleted my earlier comment in this thread, this I feel was the respectful thing to do.

So, famously people know how superstitious I am. We must have a run-off election now, Herr Hofer will face an Independent who's actually a Green lunatic, the latter should get the Socialists votes....Herr Hofer, on our calculations needs to collect about 15% of the ÖVP - Österreichische Volkspartei - Austrian People's Party votes.

FPÖ - Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs - Freedom Party of Austria, have been winning for some time, have been the most popular party for some time. The President is very much ceremonial, however they can dismiss the Government and either call new elections or appoint a new Chancellor of their choice.

The so-called "refugee" situation, which we are almost untouched with now, thanks to the Balkan Route being shut and our ignoring the EU HQ and enforcing strict border controls of our own, this has brought us to where we are, Herr Hofer is the only choice, we simply cannot be having a Green lunatic in this game.

The EU needs shaking to it's rotten foundations, we hope this is it.

I refer to the fact that the numbers are in contradiction with colors. The map is an trickery, because image is show approximately 90℅ the blue. I think the article is also a lie. I am a precise , I do not like the reality distortion.

I'm Austrian, the article is correct, FPÖ Herr Huber came first.

The map is accurate as the majority of Austrians live in 4 or 5 cities. Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salsburg - and I forget the other.

Innsbruck.

This is correct yes, as I stated to Maggdy. Many of the blue areas of that map are small villages.

I should add, even in the second round, should Herr Hofer not succeed, it now doesn't matter, this is because our next election is in 2018 and the FPÖ the latest poll says support at 40%, this is more than enough to govern alone, without having to get the ÖVP into a Grand Coalition....this last occured from 2000-2007 but in reverse, it was a ÖVP-FPÖ Grand Coalition.

I was listening earlier today to a discussion involving political scientists and other political pundits, and they all agreed that our next Government will be FPÖ, our next Kanzler will be H-C Strache....Heinz-Christian Strache, he's 46 years-old and hugely exciting and pretty good looking. Herr Stracher, his trained profession is a Dental Technician....Herr Hofer would make a good Minister of The Interior, Herr Hofer, his trained profession is an Aeronautical Engineer.

This is H-C Strache:

Like 81% of our people, he's a Christian man and not ashamed to publicly state he's a Christian man in an historically Christian nation:

Wien already freaking about the Herr Hofer result, yesterday the Government passed an emergency law, my nation is now totally closed to the so-called "refugees", this is probably the most hardcore law in Europa at the moment regarding the filthy savages.

Austria passes emergency law allowing asylum-seekers to be turned away at the border

"The Austrian parliament adopted a new asylum law on Wednesday that will allow the government to declare a “state of emergency” over the migrant crisis and reject almost all asylum-seekers at the border.

The measure will leave Austria with some of the toughest asylum laws in Europe.

It comes after a far-Right candidate, Norbert Hofer, won the first round of the country’s presidential election, running on an anti-migrant message.

The passage of the law also comes against the backdrop of a row with Italy over Austria's plans to impose new controls on the border between the two countries."

Here's the rest of the article, this from the UK Telegraph newspaper:

Yes, Austria is a beautiful country, although I only saw in pictures the landscape is.

And, how many citizen did votes?
(It seems the half of population did not vote.)

Thank you for saying my nation is beautiful.

Well you can only vote, like in other nations, if you've registered to vote. So roughly 4.2 million people voted, this is actually very good.
