The local ones are thieves. liars, and conmen. They've gone so far as to legally change their family name fairly recently becuase nobody would hire anyone named Marks.

The last time a Gypsy caravan passed through my town (1920s) their wagons were burned to the axels and two of their leaders hung for stealing children in the next county over.
