What so complicated about an Amendment to the Constitution that disallows automatic "birthright" citizenship?

Illegal Immigrants' Legal Kids Snarl Policy
Increased Birthrate Exacerbates Issue

A new report providing the most detailed portrait to date of the illegal immigrant population found that it is mostly made up of young families that are having children at a much faster rate than previously known. The study, released yesterday by the nonpartisan, Washington-based Pew Hispanic Center, also found that a disproportionate share of such children live in poverty and lack health insurance.

Because any child born in the United States has a right to citizenship, the growing presence of these children is likely to complicate the debate over immigration policies aimed at their parents.

The question of so-called "mixed-status" families is not new. But the increase in the number of children born to illegal immigrants is likely to exacerbate such situations in years to come.

I'm all for it, but for political expedience, I doubt that either party will follow up on this suggestion as it might cause them to lose out on hispanic voters. I see anchor babies as a huge slap in the face of the citizenship provisions of our constitution, but I doubt that either party has the cojones to fix this issue.

Another reason to get rid of parties ... bah! Why can't people just do what's right and what works when they get into power?

If Democrats and Republicans supported a Constitutional amendment in unison, then who would lose Hispanic votes? In truth, if the people want this change, they need to start a grass roots non-partisan effort pushing their representatives to put this in motion.

If they both did, sure, but do you really think that either of the parties is going to potentially hand the other party that voter bonus? Partisan politics is still the name of the game.

As an aside, why is it that the people who can least afford to have kids have the most?

Because Jesus wants them to. Jesus loves the little children. All the little children of the world. Especially the ones that he's allowing to starve to death in Africa right now.

He loves them, that doesn't mean he's going to feed them. Plus, lots of them are not Christians. Or not the right kind of Christians. Don't question things.

The following comments are from one of my Libertarian friends:

Handouts from the government (if we are going to have them) should be limited to citizens.

Also, we should amend the Constitution so that children born to non-citizens are NOT automatically citizens. Here is an example of a possible amendment:

A person born to a citizen and resident of the United States shall be a citizen thereof.

Congress shall specify what other persons shall be citizens, and the conditions for such.

Perhaps McCain & Kennedy should get together on THIS!

NO!!!! This is the kind of ignorance that sees the USA going down the toilet more and more with every passing day. The 14th Amendment (link) includes the 'subject to' clause pertaining to individuals (slaves) owned by U.S. Citizens allowing 'them' and their descendants to become U.S. citizens. Foreign Nationals are 'subject to' the laws of 'their homeland' AND they are sneaking across our borders 'illegally' in order to 'benefit' from a misinterpretation of our 14th Amendment for their own personal gain/benefit.

There is no loophole in the 14th Amendment allowing Foreign Nationals to suddenly become 'subject to' the laws of the USA by coming here 'illegally' to engage in 'illegal' activity, but people working every day to 'destroy' this once-great nation created that false notion to forward 'their' Open Borders Lobby Agenda. The 14th Amendment is being purposely 'Misinterpreted' (story) to create the immigration debacle by adding strength to the Illegal Immigration Magnet (story) to force stupid Americans into believing that Comprehensive Amnesty is a viable solution; when in reality the USA is cutting its own throat by legitimizing the Illegal Alien Invasion that is destroying this once-great nation.

Hi Xotoxi, Catz and Stekim:

As an aside, why is it that the people who can least afford to have kids have the most?

Because Jesus wants them to. Jesus loves the little children. All the little children of the world. Especially the ones that he's allowing to starve to death in Africa right now.

Jesus is racist.

Holy Molies . . . :0) Yes, Xotoxi is right in saying that Jesus Christ teaches what people commonly refer to as 'racism,' which we know for a fact by the way He refers to Gentiles (non-Jews) as "dogs." However, most of you fail to realize that God sent Jesus Christ to Israel ONLY and NOT to everybody:

"But He answered and said, "I was sent ONLY to the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel." But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" And He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." Matthew 15:24-26.
99.9 percent of you have a 'misinterpretation' of God's Living Word (1Cor. 2:14 applies directly to you and verse 16 to me), just like you misinterpret the 14th Amendment to include just anybody crossing our borders in the middle of the night to stake their 'claim' here by having an illegal baby. However, the USA will be destroyed LONG before anybody even attempts to straighten out this Anchor Baby STUPIDITY that amounts to nothing more than chain migration of Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals into the USA part of the Illegal Alien Invasion.

You guys have FAILED to realize that the same people who own the Federal Reserve (chapter 3) central bank also murdered JFK 'and' carried out the 9/11 attacks 'and' are currently orchestrating the U.S./Global Economic Implosion. Congress has already had their 'secret meeting' (March 13, 2008) and they are ready to go into hiding when Martial Law begins, when We The People are herded like sheep for slaughter into the FEMA Camps (story) by the millions. Congress has accepted the inevitable and they do not care about fixing the gigantic MESS that ‘they’ created by allowing millions and millions and millions of Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals to run around loose EVERYWHERE inside our borders. The American people are like sheep to be slaughtered (Romans 8:36) and your elected officials are part of the Global Elite bringing in their Fascist State of CanAmeriMexico. Your Congress is ensuring your demise by seeking passage of HR 645 (the Text) that creates FEMA Death Camps (story) on U.S. Military Bases. The story about the 'trains' preparing to take you to the FEMA Camps is here. Alex Jones talks about the FEMA Camps here:

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tjn-RbkOE4[/ame]

The FEMA Camps will be open to you and your anchor babies; but like the Roach Motel, you check in and never check out . . .

This issue needs to be legally challenged & the Supreme Court needs to decide it's place in the 14th Amendment, if any. That is the only way this "anchor baby" shit can be stopped.

AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD DECIDE

Immigration Reform with any form of amnesty should be decided by the American people because it’s going to affect all of us in some way.

It affects our children in education, part-time after school jobs and healthcare, our senior citizens who have to share social services and social security when elderly parents are allowed to enter this country and receive SSI and Medicaid and never having paid into the system and working Americans who have to compete for jobs and wages, and all of us have to share our natural resources and be victimized by the criminal element that come with 20 illegal aliens who have shown to have killed more Americans than 9-11 and the two recent wars.

Immigration Reform or not should be decided by the American people and not by congress who is not affected by illegal immigration at all except future votes.

Over 75% or Americans are against amnesty or path to citizenship and wholly support enforcement and the E-Verify system.

It is too bad that their American born children have to “pay” for the “deliberate” actions of their parents who “chose” to break the law by entering this country illegally. When Americans break the law and go to jail or prison, they are not excused because they have to leave their children behind and they may suffer without them. At least they do not suffer the same consequences as David’s son when he deliberately took another man’s wife and his son paid for it with his life. Going a bit farther, when GOD chose to destroy as city, for example Sodom and Gomorrah, he did not spare the children. So, children being deported with their parents is not a death sentence or a punishment as alleged.

They are still minor children and the responsibility of their parents and cannot be left here for the American people to finically support. If an American left their children, they could be charged with “child abandonment”.

Obama and Congress should go to Immigration Message boards and see how American really feel about illegal immigration, immigration reform and amnesty and then decide what should be done.
All of this do affect our lives and we do have a voice and should be heard.

AUTOMATIC BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP SEPARATE FAMILIES
and it is for that reason AUTOMATIC BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP must be repealed retro-active or correctly interpreted. It was never meant to be applied to illegal aliens. It is time illegal aliens recognize their American born children cannot be used as anchors. When illegal aliens are deported, and they are subject to that at anytime, they are not force to leave their children behind. If they were “anchors” no one illegal would be deported. One half million “anchor babies”are born in this country each year, and most women have them deliberately in hope that they will become anchors, and they had a horrendous burden on our schools, healthcare and criminal justice system.
It is appalling and a slap in the face of every black that fought and lost their lives in the civil right movement for illegal aliens to compare their criminal acts to the civil right movement. They have no right to be here and no right to use the civil right movement. It just will not fly.
IMMIGRATION REFORM; would only excuse illegal immigration and encourage more.
ENFORCEMENT;is the only thing that works against illegal immigration.
AMNESTY; Been there, done that and it does not work.

It was already decided twice by American citizens last year (or was that the year before?) when grassroots efforts defeated 2 congressional attempts.

As an aside, why is it that the people who can least afford to have kids have the most?

As far as the illegal aliens, and/or mexicans, they're trying to breed themselves into power, and it's almost worked in kullyfornia, seeing as it's 51% hispanic, and much of which is in that state illegally.

The anchor baby law has to go, as well as the illegal aliens. They are a large part of why this countries health and human services/entitlement programs are broke.
