American Coastopia!

Can states legally cede from the Union?

As far as I know, Texas is the only state that was admitted to the Union on the agreement that they can cede from the union if so desired. All others signed on under the agreement that, legally, they cannot.

I always find it interesting when i hear talk of some folk in Northern states wishing to be annexed by Canada. I also ask if they really believe that culturally that they'd be similar to Canada than a Conservative America.

The only states I could see that could possibly similar enough that it'd work would be Washington, Minnesota, Michigan (the northern part), Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. California in Canada? Come on... that'd be ridiculous eh? Bunch of Hosiers.

agreed. and from what I understand, there are quite a few conservatives and true independents in Canada itself. Therefore, they might not like the liberal ideals of our leftists any more than the red counties of America.

Absolutely. Conservatism is quite alive in Canada. However it does tend to manifest itself economically rather than morally in the politics of Canada.

Difference between political ideologies are quite different North of the border, to say the least. There just isn't that rift between people in our political make-up. If someone votes for the Conservatives it's not seen as a bad thing by supporters of the leftist politicians, and the reverse is likely true.

And these are the people that the pundits expect Bush to "reach across the aisle" too ??? Whatever for?????

You know thats what I'm asking. The left ran the most vitriolic campaign ever, openly preached their hatred for the president. And more than half the country voted Republican.

And now the Dems expect to sit back and have the President "reach out" to them? Like they can just say and do whatever the hell they want to be disrespectful and then they can just be "reached out" to?

The way I see it, since MORE THAN HALF the country voted for US, THEY should be the ones "reaching out". WE have the support of the MAJORITY. Maybe they can "reach out" by not fillibustering like crybabies when a Conservative judge gets put up by Bush. That would be a start.

But yeah, in a nutchell: Since we got the support of more than half the country, THEY should be the ones reaching out.

American Coastopia, great idea. Let the libs have the blue areas (although I think the color red fits them better). If California and New York are any indication of how they will manage economically, figure them to go bankrupt in just a few short years. With all of those welfare programs they like, the money won't last long because the people who actually work for a living will move to the red areas. (Maybe they can hit up Hollywood to tide them over a little longer.)

About the time they are sinking financially, they should start sinking literally because with all of the new busy red area factory emissions, the oceans should soon rise and flood over both coastal areas. :D

They won't. As soon as they regain their wind again after this gut punch, they will be bigger blowhards than ever. (just listen to the current "our party has morals too" line of BS)

Because we don't have a 60 seat majority, things could get tough because they don't know the meaning of "getting along" unless things are done their way.

Ah, I can just see it. People will start trying to leave Coastopia in droves. It's alarmed leaders will construct a wall, in order to "protect" it's citizens from unsavory Jesusland ideas. Coastopia's collapse will come hot on the heels of the words, "Mr. Chomsky - tear down this wall!"

That's HILARIOUS!!!

I want the Oregon Coast to be part of Jesusland. Take a look at the counties breakout and you'll see that most of OR is red. Let the lefties have the blue metro areas - they can pretend they're in their own little Berlin. They can fly in supplies fomr Kanada and France. I suppose they won't want to deal with Mexico as it is a very religious country.

I used to live in Portland and as a conservative, I was a minority. I guess I should have stayed and petitioned for special rights!

LMAO! That map on your avatar tells the true story. Sometimes, I find myself explaining the electoral system to people (what the heck - someone had to explain it to MY dumb ass, so I try to pass it along when I can). I always start out the same way:

"Picture that demographic map of the U.S. - you know - that big RED bastard with the little blue specks on it."

I love how the dems keep talking about the "blue" states while ignoring that there really are only blue CITIES since most of the blue states were MUCH more red than blue.

I would like to make a few of them (the dims) black and blue! :crutch:

Sounds like we, as usual, were ahead of the rest of the crowd in covering this story. Today both Rush and Hannity are talking about this "map".

:)

the red states have all the nukes and norad.....not to mention all the good bands come from the rust belt

Not only that, but the most productive members of those "blue cities" probably lean to the right. So they can talk about how rich these states are all they want, but the reality is you can rest assured the people who made those states rich wouldn't be sticking around in the People's Socialist Republic of Coastopia. And I doubt they could build the wall fast enough.
