A Stirling engine is a device that converts heat energy into mechanical power by alternately compressing and expanding a fixed quantity of air or other gas (the working fluid) at different temperatures.

Recently, however, stirling engines have been increasingly designed towards using another source of heat: the sun. New stirling engines can work using the heat of the sunand provide a new way for one to harness that energy without only relying on photovoltaic panels.

Rod and I have discussed heat driven engines a little. Can't say it is a bad idea. We talked a bit more on steam driven units here due to our location. The resources of natural wood that grows here on our place and the cold winter months could provide heat and energy. My mind keeps going back to an efficient way to convert Methane though as a viable and reliable resource that could be readily available to everyone if a system could be designed that could be made cost effective for the average household. Using small Methane gas systems could solve long term problems of pollution and waste on so many levels.
