I'm not an Israel first person.. I love my country, America.. Our greatest ally is Israel.. it's called LOYALTY, something you don't have the first clue of. Your hatred of the tiny beacon of freedom in a God-forsaken land is duly noted and clouds your perception.. but hatred always does that.
All this time I thought that our greatest allies were either Great Britain or France. With a stronger lean to Great Britain over the past couple of decades.
Think about it. They either help us or have helped us in terms of war, trade,diplomacy/politics in dealing with other nations and so forth. In fact, we have taken on the English language and the French concpts of liberty due to their over-arching influence on us.
Israel, not trying to be overly cynical here, tends to come across as a tool for our politicians to garner votes. They can't help us in dealing with their neighbors--quite the contrary. They maybe militarily strong in comparison to their enemies, yet becomes a toxic issue if we have to go to war with their neighbors. And compared to Great Britain and France, they just do not have the prestige or background with dealing with foreign entities.
The best thing I see the Israelis offering this country are strategic positioning and human Intel on the region. Besides that, it is a promise to protect them that keep us tied to Israel. If Israel did not exist, we would turn to either Egypt, Turkey or Saudia Arabia for the stuff Israel is doing for us. And we would not consider any of those three nations as our greatest ally in the process.
I don't see Israel as tool at all.. Only if you have blinders are could you see that..Israel is the United States closest ally in the Middle East and a beacon of democracy and freedom in the region. Why anyone would choose Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood is beyond me. Tomorrow is the Anniversay of Sept 11th and the worst attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor.. I hope Americans will remember who our true enemy is and that IS NOT Israel..
For now, Israel is our closest ally in the Middle East.
But to assume that the Muslims Brotherhood, Hamas or Hezebollah is an enemy that we could never ally our interests (of course in the case that Israel did not exist--but then, many of these groups would not exist in such a case!!) is not reflective of our history.
What I stated in the previous post is a warning. If I can think this way, what do you think our silver tongued politicians think of this issue? Especially the ones proclaiming that "Israel is our greatest ally", not "Our Greatest ally in the Middle East".
