ACLU opposes outsourced law enforcement

in exchange for up to 25 percent of the task force’s profits

this cannot be allowed, period. it will absolutely start the road to corporate police state, which i know, some believe exists now, but imagine corporations controlling the entire police force. and why in the hell are there profits?

Attorneys should have a field day with this crap.

One would hope so. In fact, that's probably all that will stop this because the GOP government in Oklahoma shows no interest in it.

Never forget: When the GOP runs on a platform of reducing the size of government, this is what they always mean. It's not that they intend to actually reduce what government is responsible for, only that they'll outsource the responsibility to their corporate buddies. GOP "downsizing" of government is probably the greatest transfer of tax dollars to corporate cronies since the Grant administration and the biggest swindle ever pulled on American taxpayers.

The GOP can bite my ass, and I'm by no means a leftist. That entire ticket can burn. Get some real conservatives who aren't war mongering, police state lovers in there would be fresh start. People like McCain, Graham and their ilk deserve fates that I cannot legally express on my NSA watched internet connection.

and yet liberal california has outsourced prisons to corporations....

we need to stop simply pointing fingers at the "other" party because BOTH parties are beholden to corps...ignoring it only makes the problem greater.

Really?

"Until Governor Schwarzenegger proclaimed an emergency in corrections in 2006, California had only seen a limited use of PPPs in its corrections system. The state had primarily used PPPs for privately operated community corrections facilities (seven are in operation today) and various contracted services, including education, vocational training and substance abuse treatment. The state did not apply PPPs on a larger scale for contracted prison operations until the governor’s proclamation, and the state’s first contract in 2006 to house roughly 1,000 inmates in out-of-state, privately operated prisons has been expanded tenfold to cover over 10,000 inmates by 2010."

Well, what is important is that we all think this is a slippery slope and we all fight against it.

Oklahoma authorities have no legal basis for allowing private corporations pose as LEO.

Prisons should not be privatized.

Guard unions should not be allowed to lobby legislatures.

Seconded. It's a racket. If prisons are privatized, then the goal of prisons then become to make sure they are filled and that there is growth. Growth means more incarceration. Privatized law enforcement necessarily obliges. Law enforcement and incarceration for profit? I don't know how any citizen, Republican or Democrat, could be in favor of such a thing, or find any justification for it under the Constitution.

Where else but Republican Oklahoma would you have a corporation posing as law enforcement and doing roadside drug interdiction? If you support Posse Comitatus, how can you support this?

I really like the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) response: The ACLU isn't authorized to complain!

This is a first step social experiment conducted by the emerging corporatocracy. If it succeeds in Oklahoma, expect to see it in your state soon.

then blame your dems for not voting...fact is, caddo county is heavily registered democrat, yet you blame this on pubs which is partisan blindness.

exactly, there is no legal basis and prisons should not be privatized

why shouldn't guard unions be allowed to lobby? other unions do.

Hardly.

It’s yet another tedious example of failed conservative dogma hostile to the public sector and the fallacy that the private sector is ‘more efficient’ in all matters.

Which is clearly not the case.

But conservatives will adhere blindly to their dogma, even to the detriment of the American people.
