Do you think The Rich and Major Corporations have gained more power over our government during the last 30 years? What would you support your view with?

Yes.

Because as we seem to embrace more issues and acts that define oligarchy, it is more becoming a socialist commons, rather than a culture ran by the people. And thus, the rich and corps, are all in the same collusion as the government itself.

Corporations are people my friend. It's all about the money they spend.

Yes and both parties are guilty. Many appointees go back and forth from Wall Street and Washington. Nice they can influence leglislation for their buddies. Both parties accept donations from Wall Street.

who's the rich?

The Rich? I'm not talking about some doctor making $500K a year. I'm talking about a George Soros on The Left or Koch Brothers on The Right.

I'm amazed that people are so naive or indoctrinated, that anyone would answer No. Some things are pretty obvious.

Quick Statistic: During the last 20 years, the candidate running for ANY federal political office who had the most money, won the election.

So let me get this straight. Your position is that because the Rich and Corporations have more freedom to effect our elections, it's the Socialists fault.

Some have some haven't. What we've seen over the thirty years (more really) isn't so much wealth gaining power over government, but a merging of political and economic power. Regardless, there's no denying that some corporations and wealthy interests have learned that manipulating government policy produces more dependable profits than satisfying the needs of consumers.

You are suffering from myopia today, Independent.

You omitted my answer to your question: You omitted "goverment".

Yes, again, they are all in collusion.

The cost of campaigns. Where do you think the money's coming from? They have all that extra money because of lower tax rates and want to keep the gravy train going. SUPPORT PUBLIC FINANCING OF ELECTIONS. It'll cost us less in the long run.

"The Rich" and "Major Coporations" are too generic to be taken seriously, even if they are in title case.

However, I do believe that major financial institutions, particularly the large broker-dealers, have become more powerful with a great deal of assistance from the government. To support this assertion, I give you two large supports, and one small one.

The large ones:
1. The Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000.

One of my "favorite" parts of that bill is section 117, which contains the following words:

This Act shall supersede and preempt the application of any State or local law that prohibits or regulates gaming or the operation of bucket shops

2. Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999

A small one which had a large and devastating effect: Alternative Net Capital Requirements for Broker-Dealers That Are Part of Consolidated Supervised Entities; Supervised Investment Bank Holding Companies; Final Rules

Hmmm..., I wonder if there's a solution out there? :eusa_think:

Simple: Campaign finance reform.

Big money is spent on lobbying, they must be getting something for all that dirty cash.

Clearly.

Corporations don't spend all that money for "fun". Of course they are getting something from it.

The Chamber of Commerce, working with Republicans and China moved millions of American jobs to China from 2000 to 2008. Trillions in Bush tax cuts were spent on something. We know Iraq wasn't paid for.

China gives to the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber funds Republicans over Democrats 9 to 1.

It's also why the Republican controlled Supreme Court opened up unlimited funding from companies because they will fund the Republicans, the best politicians money can buy.

Public financing of elections is a very bad idea. You may as well just elect all politicians to a life time term because that will be the result of publicly funded elections.

What we should do in order to dilute the interests of lobbyists and give the people more representation is to increase the number of representative in the House.
