1. "The job of the newspaper is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable."

The famous quote is about a hundred years old and can be traced to the work of Finley Peter Dunne, one of the great journalists of the day, who wrote about politics and culture in the voice and persona of an Irishman named "Mr. Dooley."

2. No longer. Today we have 'investigative journalists' who won't investigate.

3. The result is the re-election of a failure who is allowed to get a good night's sleep...so that he can make political appearances and speeches the next day while American diplomats are slaughtered in Benghazi.

4. The 'press' is there to copy down and present as fact whatever this fraudulent administration tells them to....and to support the re-election of the "Do Not Disturb" President.

5. Here a more accurate description of the press:
amanuensis: a person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another; secretary.

6. Here, the curtain pulled back by Senator McCain:

JOHN MCCAIN SNAPS AT DAVID GREGORY OVER BENGHAZI: ‘DO YOU CARE WHETHER OR NOT FOUR AMERICANS DIED?

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) asked an armor piercing question in the midst of some contentious crosstalk on today’s edition of “Meet the Press.” After being asked by host David Gregory what the scandal in Benghazi would be “if the worst thing were true,” McCain said he didn’t know the answer to that question, but wanted answers to other open inquiries anyway.

“We have had a massive cover-up on the part of the administration…” McCain began, before Gregory started pushing back in response.

“A massive cover up of what?” Gregory asked. “Susan Rice said there was a lot of confusion…”

Before Gregory could finish his question, McCain snapped, “Do you care, David? Do you care, David? I’m asking you, do you care whether four Americans died? The reasons for that? And shouldn’t people be held accountable for the fact that four Americans died, including a very dear man?”

“A cover-up of what?” Gregory persisted.

“Of the information concerning the deaths of four brave Americans,” McCain said.

So...you don't disagree that the putrid relation ship between the Progressive/Leftist/Liberal/Democrat establishment and what had been an objective source meant to inform the public is a disgusting corruption of the reality?

Good for you!
It's never too late to learn!

Now....as for the new topic you wish to raise, here is the hermeneutical key for understanding your link:

O'Sullivan's First Law (a.k.a. O'Sullivan's Law), paraphrased by George Will as stating that any institution that is not libertarian and classically liberal will, over time, become collectivist and statist.

O'Sullivan's First Law: All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing. I cite as supporting evidence the ACLU, the Ford Foundation, and the Episcopal Church. The reason is, of course, that people who staff such bodies tend to be the sort who don't like private profit, business, making money, the current organization of society, and, by extension, the Western world. At which point Michels's Iron Law of Oligarchy takes over — and the rest follows. http://old.nationalreview.com/flashback/flashback-jos062603.asp

The Smithsonian, long ago, fell under that rubric.

No thanks necessary.
I always enjoy informing and explaining.

the truly frustrating part of the story isn't that journalism is dead (but I agree that it is)

No, the truly frustrating part of this development is this

Even when journalist do their job and report corruption NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT BY THE AUTHORITIES.

Perfect Example?

LIBOR SCANDAL

Another? USB having been found out for trading with terrorists?

Given a FINE No jail time, just a fine.

Gold man Sachs, screws its own clients?

Perfectly okay.

You want to know why journalism id dead?

Because what's the point of telling people about something criminal if NOTHING is going to be done about it?

The same people financing Big Media are the ones holding the purse strings for Big Daddy Big Gubmint.

It has all become quite incestuous.

The real shame of this is they have destroyed the credibility of the media. It's not something they will get back easily either. There are too many players and all the competition has turned it into a one upsmanship contest. It's all about the sesationalism.
