For now I have to head out to meet clients so ill check in later.

Sorry can't answer, all of the above is not one of the answers.

Besides, what stagnation do you speak of? What major piece of legislation, other then this latest attempt to score political points with the "jobs bill." Was not passed by congress? I can't think of one. The stagnation you see is because of Obama's doing not because of stagnation.

Neither, obviously.

There is no ‘Obama attribute’ contributing to the stagnation of our economy.

The economy is stagnant as a consequence of the December 2007 recession; the result of that recession, among other things, is a dead housing market and consumers drowning in debt, these are the two most damaging factors contributing to the current economic situation.

The idea that a given president has some direct effect on the status of the economy is naïve and ignorant, the position of a partisan hack.

It’s Congress’ responsibility to enact legislation designed to address a given economic issue. The administration may draft proposals and recommend them to Congress, but it’s ultimately the Legislative Branch’s responsibility.

The government can help with programs for those adversely effected, such as unemployment compensation and jobs and training programs, various stimulus measures, and by using its resources to at least get the economy moving in the right direction, given the fact the private sector is unable or unwilling to participate and consumers, the traditional ‘engine’ of the economy, in no position or mood to spend.

In reality, however, neither the Executive nor Legislative can have much of a positive effect on such a badly damaged economy; it will heal in its own time, in its own manner.

I agree.
It is neither lack of experience or his agenda. It is his worldview that sees wealth as simply existing and whoever wants it can reach out and grab it. Thus no one is entitled to wealth any more than anyone else. Uneven distribution is the result of inherent racism and unfairness. The gov't facilitates wealth distribution by helping "weaker" people against the stronger.

The only thing worse than this view is the fact that some people actually believe it.

I think it has something to do with teleprompters

Somewhat leading....won't ya say?

Not really. If I understand him he's trying to poll right-of-center posters on USMB to find out which of the two options is more commonly believed by those posters. It's assumed that anyone on the left, like thee and me, either support Obama or oppose him for left-leaning reasons not encompassed by those choices. We're not supposed to vote in the poll (and I haven't).

So far we haven't had any righties posting in this thread, which makes me wonder if the choices are good ones even around those parameters.

This poll was less about Obama than what everyone us assuming. I merely wanted to know how many people contributed his lack of experience to our current issues both in DC and the economy.

The reason for this is I wanted to see if that analogy could then be applied to Cain. I am concerned about his lack of experience. However is seems neither the left nor the right seem to think its an issue. In fact some in here found it necessary to make a point about how stupid this theory was so I will assume that those of you who mentioned that will not bring it up as concerned to Cain.

Personally it did concern me with Obama and will again with Cain.

Given that Cain seems to know almost nothing about policy or government, I'm pretty sure if he remains at the top of the polls into next year this is going to come up. Be patient.

Whatever the motive, the question is idiotic, frivolous, and partisan given the fact the Executive has no direct impact on the economy, particularly an economy so severely damaged and with a House unwilling to act.

I want to answer but am having trouble choosing.

Him pursuing his legacy healthcare legislation when he should have been paying attention to how his stimulus and HAMP were being implemented - this was huge.

But how do I disentangle that from his lack of any sort of business understanding at all and the many faux pas and confidence killers that has caused him to commit?

Since I thought of the healthcare fiasco first, I guess that gives me my answer but I'd have preferred an all of the above choice.

Given the two choices, I had to pick lack of experience. But not lack of experience in the government sector. Lack of experience in the business world. If you've never had a real job or never run a company how in the heck can you run a country?? Sorry, the US economy isn't even close to Acorn. :doubt:

I can't choose from those.

While he didn't have executive experience before taking office he was a US Senator on the foreign relations committee.

I don't think he is so much "agenda first".

Rabbi came pretty close to articulating my thoughts.
Obama has some pre-conceived notions about wealth and the economy that runs counter to a solution.
He's a great speech maker. That's the community organizer in him.
He knows how to rally a crowd.

I won't call him a socialist, but he would be happy if our economy was more "evenly distributed".
Whether you like or dislike that notion, it flies in the face of how our country was constructed.

The word I would use to describe him is "naive".
He just doesn't fully grasp the gravity of his position and decisions.
he thinks that he can solve any problem by throwing a ton of cash at it.

Well, I've just read all the comments before mine. Glad I posted my impressions of the poll before I read the rest of the posts.

I do have some concern about Cain's lack of gov't experience. There are pros and cons to knowing how to play the political game. But in times of economic crisis lack of gov't experience is not as much of a liability as lack of business experience.

But I don't like Cain's 9-9-9 plan so that's one reason he's not at the top of my list. Much more than any experience question.

The only thing idiotic is your perpetual hollier than thou attitude. If your so god damn smart why don't you run for office and stop wasting your genius on us mere simpletons.

My issue with Cain is not so much policy as process. Without experience in gov't he lacks knowledge of how to get an agenda passed. So he can have the greatest programs and ideas but it is meaningless without the experience to enact them.

I'm center and a little to the right, but I'm not sure where to place an answer.

Seems to me it's a combination of unfortunate events from Obama telling every leader in the EU how bad America is and it's everyone's in America fault except his and those who agree with him.

That pissed off the barracudas in every American sector who grew up loving America and being traditionally handed down a better America to each succeeding generation in America.

Then Obama shut down drilling in the Gulf of Mexico through executive order, which relieved tens of thousands of high-paid professional people of their work and their paychecks.

That raised the price of gas so high, average people couldn't afford road trips to Yellowstone, Yosemite, Big Bend, Acadia, and other national parks, not to mention the entire tourist trade dependent on interstate travellers coming with vacation savings to spend in their localities.

Obama, through punishing people he hated in the oil industry, demolished the tourist trade.

Sorry I'm of so little help to you, Grandpa Murked.

Americans responded to business incentives given by Obama's successors who employed such ideals by booming the economy and hiring.

Obama sends in the FBI and other agencies to finish off failing businesses or arranges a way to run them from the government rather than the private sector.

Then, in order to do something to please his EU buddies, Obama gets Reid, Pelosi, and his other spin room goons to write the most complex white paper ever written on screwing the taxpayer and got them to submit it under the umbrella of a name, "Obamacare." Pelosi chided an overburdened congress to just shove it through, not to worry about reading it.

He goes against 85% of the American people at will when he can get away with it.

When Boehner decided that was enough, that he would not allow this shoving through of the absurd, he put an end to Obama's Make-A-Wish Gummint and let him know if he wanted something, he'd better propose other financing than from an already strapped taxpayer base. Obama responded by screeching "Tax the filthy rich! Tax they asses!"

Of course Obama doesn't understand that many seemingly wealthy persons have nominal wealth, because their investments are in hiring and maintaining benefits for workers. Yep. The wealthy have a lot of mouths to feed, and Obama was going to take their "excesses" through taxes.

The nominally wealthy were forced to freeze hiring.

Obama's bumbling around to hurt his perceived enemies and reward his perceived friends divided the nation, and it doubled unemployment. Some economists say there are as many unemployed right now as in the Great Depression, that Obama got his "fix stats" people to cover up by dropping hard-core unemployed persons by the tens of thousands until no one really knows the depth and breadth of this depression.

What an idiot.
