I’m a family practice doctor in Nebraska. I sent the following (angry,I admit) letter to Senator Nelson. I urge your readers (from Nebraska and elsewhere) to do likewise, in their own words!

Dear Senator Nelson:

I send this message under “Tort Reform” because the current monstrosity you have pledged your support to says nothing whatsoever about Tort Reform. You have sold the physicians of Nebraska for zilch (zilch for us, but beaucoup federal bucks for you and the liberal partisans in this state). As a family practice physician in Small Town, Nebraska, I was counting on you to be the lone voice of Democratic sanity on this issue, but you sold me out. I will dedicate

instead of tort reform...lets out bad doctors..the ama wont do it....how often do you hear of a doctor losing their licenses...it takes flat out drug addiction or something like that....the ama does not police doctors....no one does....before you think tort reform...think about cleaning up the medical profession

It's not the AMA's job to "out" bad Drs. That is up to the state license boards, who does in fact, police doctors.

Doctors lose their licenses all the time. If you wanted too, you could subscribe to your state's professional medical publication, where they (in some states) actually post the name of the Doctor and reason for their loss of license.

I do agree that "tort reform" is a red herring that the medical profession throws around that falls far short of addressing all the problems.

Let's clean out the dirty politicians first. Then work on the AMA.

What a GREAT idea! :eusa_doh:

You guys realize that the AMA is a professional organization whose primary concern is policy and lobbying, correct?

Most Drs. don't belong to the AMA, and the AMA has absolutely no authority to govern a Doctor's practice.

At any rate, I personally found the Dr's letter to be unprofessional. No doubt, it will get tossed into the "crazy crank" letter pile by the Senator's staff. Pity. I would hope a physician could articulate their view points a little bit better:

You have my disgust and disdain forever, you socialist-coddling coward.

I am curious, has the medicare/medicaid reimbursement rate been lowered to $35? That is news to me, and I would think I would have heard about it among the physicians at my school, since our patient population is entirely medicaid/medicare.

I know that my family Doctor who is also a personal friend has told me that he will probably retire once this Healthcare becomes a reality. If it becomes a reality. I'm afraid that we will suddenly find ourselves very short of qualified Doctors, very quickly.

Meanwhile, our elected people continue to happily go about the day bribing each other.
