Saying "I was like wow" instead of describing your feelings at the time of whatever incident you are trying to relate is like hanging a sign on yourself saying "I'm an uneducated a-hole".

That's why I always write it as:

Like wow!, I hear you all, but back in the day..... Just sayin'.
