Probably should have posted this in the "Religion" column. Wonder how many more of these "schools" will be popping up around the country?

    A Madrassa Grows in Brooklyn

Come September, an Arabic-language public secondary school is slated to open its doors in Brooklyn. The New York City Department of Education says the Khalil Gibran International Academy, serving grades six through 12, will boast a "multicultural curriculum and intensive Arabic language instruction."

This appears to be a marvelous idea, for New York and the country need native-born Arabic speakers. They have a role in the military, diplomacy, intelligence, the courts, the press, the academy, and many other institutions — and teaching languages to the young is the ideal route to polyglotism. As someone who spent years learning Arabic, I am enthusiastic in principle about the idea of this school, one of the first of its kind in America.

In practice, however, I strongly oppose the KGIA and predict that its establishment will generate serious problems. I say this because Arabic-language instruction is inevitably laden with pan-Arabist and Islamist baggage. Some examples:

Pipes is correct, although he as a fierce neoconservative Jew has motivations for opposing this that are different from a traditional American conservative.

He's an American conservative of Jewish extraction who does a tremendous job in his columns of warning the American people--and the West, in general--about the dangers of radical Islam. Who would better know those dangers than the Jewish people?

Exactly. We have so many madrassas in India especially in Kashmir. When journalists come and vist its all nice and cheery with boys repeating verses from the Quraan and the teacher lecturing them on the noble and peaceful existence of human beings ...etc etc and all that bullshit. But after the journalists go..Its back to learning how to fire an AK-47 and anti-Hindu lectures and plans to integrate Kashmir into the Islamic State of Pakistan.WHy cant Muslims just attend the normal school?
