60 Minutes Compares Detroit To Somalia

Head over from Grand Rapids for Lions, Tigers and Red Wings games frequently and it's perfectly safe, but you definitely don't want to stray off the beaten paths getting in and out of that part of the city.

Right.....when we were there for the Lions game we did take a couple wrong turns, but at least it was daylight!! :)
(and we head over from the Hastings area) :)

The wife has family in Holland (usual gathering-point), Wyoming and Grand Rapids - we come up-and-around The Lake 1-2 times each year from the Chicago metro area to visit - we really enjoy the central-western lakeshore part of your State.

Ever take the car ferry from Ludington to Milwaukee? It supposedly saves about 6 hours driving around Lake Michigan would require. We did it once in August and it was still so cold out on deck we ducked back inside. No TV, nothing to do but sit and look at each other while eating a $3 hotdog. Never so glad to see Wisconsin in my life.

Nope. Never did. Usually too much 'chop' on The Lake for this landlubber, anyway, based on what I remember from a handful of fishing-boat charters 5-10 miles offshore.

Our Joliet (area, not the town) -to-Holland runs usually take 3-1/2 hours with clear, clean, dry roads, and we're a lot closer to the bottom of the lake than you guys (apparently), so drive-time is much less.

And, if we break-up the trip and take a meal on-the-road, somewhere in the middle, it's not so bad of a drive.

It's been a long time (5-7 years) since the wife and I were up your way (Pottawattomi [sp?] Casino) but we usually make it to that tourist trap ya'll call The Dells once every 3-4 years and the same goes for your RenFair in Bristol, just your side of the Illinois border.

Never been up-state in Wisconsin but if the Dells are and some of that Door County resort area are any indication, we probably really should try. Marvelous-looking country, that.

Us Illini... living in the flatlands... in the Land of Corn and Soybeans... get all worked-up about stuff like that... both the tiny islands of such stuff that we have down here, and, of course, the far more scenic countryside that you folks enjoy.

It won't be this year, but, one of these years, my brothers and I are going to have to make the pilgrimage to Milwaukee for a real Oktoberfest... or, about as close to one as one can get, in our neck of the woods.

If you like walleye, try Lake Gogebic near the Porcupine Mountains in the UP. You'll think you're in a dream if you hit the right spot at the right time. Michigan allows two lines in the water and you'll be busy. Use tiger leeches about ten feet off the bottom and when the bobber goes under yank HARD....they fight great and taste better out of Gogebic....real clean water I suppose. The leeches take some getting used to....when you get the hang of it, you grab one by the ass and when it turns and tries to nail ya, all it gets is thumbnail.

Ever hear of Web Lake?

Blaming the destroyed neighborhoods on everything and everybody but who destroyed them...the moron blacks who lived there and elected crooked black politicians solely because they were black. [...]
There is much truth in what you've said here -- but the same may be said for some form of bias on the part of millions of Whites who vote for corporate puppets like Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. And it's obvious that many Whites voted for Obama as well when there were such choices available as Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel, either of which would have taken control of the banks and sent a parade of financial criminals to prison.

So, while you're quite right about Detroit and Black voters the same may be said for the bias, ethnic and otherwise, which is responsible for the decline of the entire Nation.

In Michigan? Most of the fishing I did in Michigan was at Houghton Lake (also good hunting for mule deer) and over around the Ludington Pier. River fished the Tobacco and Au Sable many times.....some of the best tasting trout in the world....not the size of the rainbows out here at Lee's Ferry, but good fighters and plentiful. I don't recall ever leaving the Au Sable without a full creel. :eusa_angel:

Of course one can extrapolate the entitlement attitude of Detroit blacks into almost any theory of the American tragedy we're witnessing. But the bottom line always comes back to the one salient issue....spending money you don't have. Doing that is the cause for any malaise you can think of because eventually the credit runs out and nothing has been put away for the inevitable rainy day. I've never claimed unions killed Detroit because they didn't....they built a life for the blue collar Detroiter few other cities could match back in the day. And it wasn't drugs that killed Detroit...there were always drugs in Detroit. Only back in the 60's and 70's it was weed and heroin. When the blacks started smoking crack, instead of nodding out, they got amped up and went riding. Heroin kills the sex urge....cocaine amplifies the sex urge. And when the ADC checks started rolling in, baby-daddy got the boot while baby-mama filled the apartment with more babies and the bigger check. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, in the history of Detroit blacks that has done more harm to them than the federal government's social engineering.
