Not much of a JFK fan but without the audacious challenge to get a man to the moon and safely back in that short of timeframe was the catalyst. Without it when, if ever, would we make the journey? And would we even be the first to get there?President Nixon was dealing with LBJ's war and fighting with a hostile democrat congress and still put a man on the moon.Yet the liberal media gives JFK the credit.
JFKās premature death certainly enhanced the urgency. Had he lived, he would have had opportunity to say āWell, by decade, I really meant centuryā.Not much of a JFK fan but without the audacious challenge to get a man to the moon and safely back in that short of timeframe was the catalyst. Thereās an interesting documentary that chronicles the whole development of the Apollo mission starting just shortly after JFK made the challenge. When you see some of the real guys tasked with making it happen sitting around in a skull session throwing all sorts of ideas on the table you get a sense of how utterly clueless they originally were as to how the hell they were gonna make it happen. As an example of how far off they were in the beginning, and how much their thinking eventually evolved, one early concept was to develop a rocket ship a crew could blast off in, fly to and land on the moon, and then blast them off again back to earth. Sounded good I guess until they put the slide rules and whatnot to it.
Donāt recall the docās title but it canāt be hard to find. Very interesting if youāre into this stuff.
Armstrong intended to say āa manā but admitted that he was a little nervous at the time and it came out differently.Itās not man now.. apparently its āa manā.
