So, people who are trying to deal with society pounding on them already, they're going to try and seek a solution to their problem, and having a sex change operation is one of these ways.

This doesn't get rid of their mental health issues though.

You do realize that prisons are full of people with mental health issues too? The US just locks them away, it's easier to do than actually deal with the problem (even if it'd be cheaper), but the right, especially, likes having people in prison to put fear into everyone else.
