by Tyler Durden @ the Zero Hedge blog makes this comment that should not surprise any of us who see the results of our education system on a daily basis:

Following on the heels of the dumbing down of the State of the Union speech we noted yesterday, we thought a simple visualization of just how stunningly poor our nation's reading skills really are would be useful. One in five Americans lacks the basic reading skills beyond a 4th grade level - are you one of them?

More than a few of that 23% post here. You can spot them by the way they try to blame their obvious limitations on "typos."

The public school system combined with unconcerned and irresponsible parents is certainly taking its toll. And here Obama wants to raise the minimum wage for these people.

Well, as long as the rich and successful get the punishment they deserve...

Ever see the movie "Idiocracy"? We are drifting so close to the social misfits portrayed by that movie that it's scary. The favorite show was "Ow my balls" and just look at the reality shows on TV today.

The link in the Op is from someone called "onlinecollegecourses.com.
Also, the graphics are actually unreadable for me, its too small and when I try to enlarge it so it can be deciphered, it turns into a commercial for online college courses.

For the above stated reasons, I distrust the accuracy of the information at this link.

Three cheers for the government monopoly on affordable education!

On the other hand, if we could get just a bit more funding, maybe pass just one more law, everything would be great! :doubt:

Yep, federal "investment" in education certainly is effective...and the best way, besides unemployment insurance, to spur economic growth!

The NEA is to blame. They took and did not deliver.

So we should keep the minimum wage low as a punishment for illiteracy? And cut funding for schools because they're to blame?

No indeed. We should raise the minimum wage to at least $15 to celebrate mediocrity and double the funding in education so that they can continue to produce functional illiterates.
