"At midnight on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong reverts back to Chinese rule in a ceremony attended by British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Prince Charles of Wales, Chinese President Jiang Zemin, and U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. A few thousand Hong Kongers protested the turnover, which was otherwise celebratory and peaceful."

It has belonged to China for the last 22 years.

China will eventually send in the army and crush the protestors without mercy.
Watch what happens when they do too OMG...
The worlds reaction to the Chinese government brutally crushing the protest movement and jailing thousands of protesters will be intense media verbal condemnation; but that's about it.

Because no country wants to get involved in a military conflict with China over an internal political situation. ...

Don't be insulted if you already knew this, but because Britain had ruled Hong Kong for so long, it was able to cut something of a deal with China, giving Hong Kong much more autonomy and say in their government than the rest of China. Interesting--I never knew anything about this until yesterday when I started looking into it.

Interesting Fact: Hong Kong Isn't Quite a Part of China

I mean we would Prefer you brought some substance

The UN, Britain or the USA will pick a fight with China when they squash these demonstrations. There is 28 years left on Hong Kong's semi-independent status, then Hong Kong is 100% Chinese's territory.
