Delaware prosecutors indicted 16 inmates on first-degree murder charges for the February rebellion at Vaughn Correctional Center – an 18-hour siege that ended with the death of corrections officer Lt. Steven Floyd.
The indictments were filed Monday by a New Castle County grand jury, according to a statement from the Delaware Department of Justice. Eighteen inmates total were indicted.
“This was an extremely important and time-consuming investigation that involved unique challenges.” Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn said in a statement. “I appreciate the police and prosecutors’ focus on ensuring that justice is done for the victims."
