Since they were asylum seekers, they didn't attempt to escape. All they wanted was a chance to apply for asylum. If we accepted more than a dozen or so applications per day at the normal points of entry, they wouldn't have had the need to cross where they did. Either way, this is another example of how a wall doesn't stop anything.
