The salacious details weren't germane to the case. Hell, whether or not they actually had sex has zero relevance to this case certainly the circumstances of it aren't.

I don't think the prosecution has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump paid Daniels because he was running for President and not because he didn't want his wife to know.

That's not entirely true. If the prosecution can PROVE that Trump only paid Daniels to keep quiet as part of his candidacy then the fact that he used his own funds would actually prove the DA's case. I'd be willing to bet if Trump had used campaign funds for this the DA would be making the case that he illegally used campaign funds to pay off his mistress so his wife wouldn't find out. IMO proving either case would be wildly difficult unless Trump told someone explicitly why he was making the payment.
