XF pretty much took over V Bulletin.
And it was a long time coming.
I co-admin'd a large political site for about 4 years till it was bought.
This was late 2000s. And it was VB.
VB is more customizable, actually a LOT more customizable than XF - but making changes would notoriously screw up something else.
They were ripe for getting taken over.
