When I was in school you were encouraged to save towards a savings bond and they have you little cards where you stuck change in and when it was full you took it to the bank and you got a $25.00 Savings Bond.

We are really letting the youth of our country down my not encouraging our youth to save money.

None of our "leaders" (maybe Rand Paul) encourage saving anymore.

Depends on when you bought them and when you need the money.

Those bonds pay nothing

I haven’t seen them in decades

.

I remember having my little savings account in school, late 50's and early 60's.

And I remember hearing that my eldest brother had bought me a savings bond but, knowing him, he sold it back for bail or booze or drugs.

Nice story

None of us have been in school for decades. For all you know schools are teaching kids to save.

Inevitably, the teaching methods are not going to be exactly the same as when you were a kid. Just as I doubt very much the way you were taught in the 50s or whatever bore any resemblance to the way kids were taught in the 19th century

I looked but I could not find anything that says that they are, at least as far as a state or .gov program goes. :dunno:

Perhaps you can find an example but I bet you won't find a program that encourages kids to save for their future like US Savings Bonds did at the time.

If anything, it would be more like the old UNICEF program where they wanted kids to provide for other kids.

I remember my mom getting pissed when I bought one of those home from school. I remember her saying "they should be more bothered about our kids" and into the trash it went.....It was a good life lesson given what we know that goes on now.
