The US has dropped 10 spots in the 2024 ranking from the previous year, indicating a decline in press freedom. The report highlights that political authorities are not fulfilling their role as guarantors of the best possible environment for journalism, leading to a lack of reliable, independent, and diverse news and information. The US also faces pressure from the state or other political actors, with over 100 Palestinian reporters killed by the Israel Defence Forces in the war in Gaza being a significant example. The US media landscape is characterized by a concentration of ownership, prioritizing profits over public interest, and a decline in local news, which hurts diversity. Public confidence in the media has also fallen dangerously, with many states seeking to limit journalists' access to public spaces through proposed or enacted legislation.https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=ed17...8f&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9yc2Yub3JnL2VuL2luZGV4&ntb=1

The US is falling fast in an area that is a pillar of democracy. One of the reasons is the accumulation of media sites by a few wealthy people or companies. If there is no diversity of media, there can be no true sharing of factual news. The news will be whatever the wealthy owners, left or right, say it is. That spells the end of free press.
