Zone1 what popes can you remember from your childhood?

I remember Pope Paul making major changes in the 60s

No more Latin Mass, meatless Fridays, women wearing veils

How about that Pope whose nose looked exactly like the ass end of the Christmas turkey in the 50's?
.

Pope John XXIII?

The Latin mass is making a comeback.

People understood wrong about the priest not facing the congregation. It was less ignoring the people and more about leading the worship.

Everyone facing towards the altar.

when i was a little kid the brothers at catechism told us the pope is the only person on the planet who communicates directly with god....a few years later i find out he puts his pants on like the rest of us...he is just the leader of a wealthy cult...

Facing God.

After being a Catholic for a year, I'm finally learning all the responses, but I didn't miss them in the Latin Mass.

Almost none, if any. They, and Catholicism, had to do with our family and clan. Outside of the circle is all. We knew there were such things as Catholics and priests in robes but OK that was it.

15th post
so you know those who came after him.... Benedict and Francis.
.

Was not aware of them until I decided to pursue conversion, and then I had to form opinions based on what the Catholics I met had to say, while I learned how to make my own opinions. My first Catholic friend was very much about the Traditional Latin Mass and led me in that direction. When Francis was unable to speak to me in the one language in which I'm fluent. it became hard to trust his translators. Too many nuances.

i was very disappointed when Francis ended that splendid tradition to address the people in many languages when he gave the blessing Urbi et Orbi! 😒😒
