Lifestyle refers to an individual's unique way of living, encompassing their habits, attitudes, behaviors, and interests. It is a combination of what people repeatedly do, including their work, leisure, and social patterns, and can be healthy or unhealthy, active or inactive.

What got me thinking about this? This guy called in to the Howard Stern Show and said every morning he wakes up at 6am, takes a bath and then plays tennis. Then he sees 8 clients a day. I think he was a therapist. It got me thinking, is this all there is? Every day, bath, tennis and then work? What is my lifestyle? What's my routine? And what's yours? What makes you happy?

I live by myself. SINK. I have a dog. My main habit has to be walking the dog. Morning, first thing we do. If I'm off, mid day walk and a walk before dark. 3 walks a day. If that sounds boring, I actually like it. But like the guy who takes a bath and then plays tennis, walking the dog helps me pass the day. Pass the time. But are we all so bored that we have to find things to do? I guess if I didn't have the dog I'd be going to the gym 5 days a week like that guy goes and plays tennis. Only I would go after work. 6-8pm. Then come home and watch TV till midnight. I would get to sleep in an extra hour in the morning if I didn't have a dog.

A lot of us are weekend warriors. What do you look forward to on your days off? Besides walking my dog, I go with friends on long Ebike trips. We have lots of trails in Metro Detroit. Old railroad tracks tore out and pavement put down. Each city pays for their own section of the trail and these trails go on for miles and miles and miles. Connecting many many cities. I do this any chance I get except Winter.

In the Winter I work from Florida for a month. Actually I take the Ebike with me. But this is huge as far as giving me a break from Winter in MI. I hate the cold and so does my dog.

I don't go out to eat as much as I used to. Or go see movies at the theater. I don't go to bars anymore. Why do we stop doing these things later in life when we have the time and money to do them? I don't play video games either. I should get my 81 year old dad hooked on a PS3 or Xbox. Call of Duty shit. LOL. But he wouldn't even try it. Getting old sucks.

I show up early to work but I leave right at 5pm. Proper work/life balance. But I work really hard when I'm here. Well, I get a lot done.

I heard somewhere recently it's not the destination it's the journey. So instead of wishing or waiting for retirement, appreciate that you are on track to retire on time and you have a good job now and you are putting a lot into your 401K.

I'll never forget Keith Urban sang "these are the days we will remember" It's so true. In 10 years from now you'll look back at today as the good old days and wish you could go back. But that's because future you knows nothing bad happened to past you. Past you is worrying about reaching that finish line.

And when you do reach that finish line, then what? I have recently run into a lot of people recently retired who bought a home up north in the country, bought a RV and are going to travel the country, bought a place in Florida, or they go rent a place in Florida for 4 months. One guy showed me him and his wife's itinerary of where they are going and it looked amazing. I'm so jealous.

I don't envy people sitting at home bored wasting away with nothing to do. And a lot of them have the money. It's not that they can't afford to do things they just don't do shit. Stay home and watch TV. Then again, I love doing that too. But I can't even get through an entire movie without the dog bugging me to take him out for a walk. God I love that guy.

Gun Hound....I sniffed-out a 1958 Marlin Golden 39A Mountie .22 this morning.

Who's the "good doggy" now? ;)

Me, too. Plus I play some guitar, cater to the woman, and get in 60 pushups and dumbbell curls. Time permitting, I grammar-nazi LWNJs online.

Well I taught anywhere from 6-11 classes a day for 32 years, so, I was busy. But I lived by a schedule and I knew retirement would be no different. Three weeks in, and I get up, cruise the internet, have breakfast, and take a longer walk in the AM. During the day I make time for errands, cooking, playing music (guitar and piano), reading, and have discovered a love of all kinds of puzzles--word, trivia and jigsaw! Then I take a shorter PM walk, then read and start dinner.

In between all this I hang with my hubby, other family and friends.

It's not all that exciting but I'm grateful.

Funny how much you and I have in common. Me being a liberal democrat and you being a MAGAcon. I play guitar too but recently I played and all my fingers hurt and I stopped again. When I hear a song I like on the radio I go to ultimateguitartabs.com to see if someone put the chords up and then I memorize the song. But as soon as I have it down, I'm sick of playing the song.

That's one thing we have in common. The other thing is I recently borrowed some dumbbells from my brother and I'm going to start doing curls and shoulder lifts. Try to build up my biceps and shoulders. I'm 54 and losing muscle mass.

And I love to go after idiot MAGA notsee RWNJ's on USMB for fun.

I find it funny that of all the places to go on the internet, USMB is one of the main/first places I go when I want to play on the internet. USMB, Facebook, Youporn, Youtube, Huffpo, CNBC and Google.

You have to be happy in the dull moments. There are a lot more of those moments than the moment of being on the sky slopes, on vacation, on the boat, on the river fishing, in the tree hunting. The secret is being happy Monday-Friday. Not miserable M-F and happy only on weekends and ONLY if you are doing something. But I will admit, I do like looking forward to a vacation. Like I go to Florida for a month in the winter. I'm looking forward to it. You have to be happy in the here and now but I think looking forward to things coming up makes me happy too.

Some Saturday's I love getting up early as I always do, take the dog for a long walk, get home at 10am, watch some tv, drink coffee, probably take a nap. Then 2pm my dog wakes me up to take him on ANOTHER long walk. Get home at 6pm, cook, eat, watch tv till around 1am. Very uneventful day but I love it. Binge watch tv.

You're so right, and I'm blessed in that I've always been happy with little things. My morning cup of Joe is like a big deal to me....ha! Having a dog is a great way of getting those steps in!

I really got used to working from home after Covid. Now I'm back in the office 4 days a week. So I have to keep reminding myself

a. I have a great job that pays more than enough
b. 7 minutes from my home
c. Could be 5 days in the office. 3 days home with the dog
d. They let me work from Florida 1 month every year

My dog has been tearing up my place lately. He's 10 years old. Never did it before. He's telling me he is not happy with me leaving at 7:30am and getting home at 5:07pm. NOT happy. LOL.

I have to remember Dog Years. They go by 7 times too fast. So he's really wasting a lot of his life staring out my doorwall 9 hours a day 4 days a week. So last night when I normally watch tv at 8am (Monday Night Football) he was laying there behind me but then he got up and whined at me so I got up, put my jacket on and gave him a bonus walk. Why not. There's no snow on the ground yet. Until there's snow and it's below 30, it's not winter yet.

That's who's never happy. My dog. It's always "okay now what's next?" I take him out in the woods. I find a nice tree to lean against. Or a nice secluded beach that we have all to ourselves. I try to meditate for 5 minutes and he can't stand me sitting down. Get up he says. Keep it moving. I call him the shark. Sharks have to keep moving or they die. I think my dog is half shark. LOL.

Truth is, I think I might be friends with a lot of folks here, IRL. Politics has become such a toxic divider in this country. It’s rather sad. Anyways, wish you well in your endeavors. We will battle again , though! 😎

Electric or acoustic?
Acoustic. I learned all the basic chords and I like to sing and play guitar. I can sing so I always wanted to learn how to play. Finally a guy taught me the chords. No other music teacher would do that. They wanted to teach me the right way. In other words milk me for as many lessons as possible.

First song my buddy taught me was Love is What I Got by Sublime. He drew where to put my pointer middle and ring finger to make a D and then drew another diagram for where to put your fingers for G. I went home for a week just went back and forth D, G, D, G not knowing that the next lesson I would be playing and singing Early in the morning, rising through the streets, light me up a cigarette and I'll strap shoes to my feet, got to find a reason, reason things went wrong, got to find a reason why my money's all gone, life too short so love the ones you got oh you might get run over or you might get shot, never stop or stutter I just get it off my chest,......

The next week he taught me Am F Dm G and C. Mr. Jones by Counting Crows

And so on and so on.

THEN one day he taught me bar chords. First song Night Moves by Bob Seager. G F C.

Back to politics. What pisses me off about Republicans is something my buddy did the other day. He kept telling me I have to listen to Joe Rogan's podcast and I need to vote for Trump. Then the other day I show him a video of Joe Rogan realizing Trump is a big ******* liar. What does my buddy reply? He gets angry. Says I have TDS.

Isn't that funny he can send me texts and videos of Joe Rogan endorsing Trump but he got so mad when I showed him Joe bashing Trump.

His words. "I don't care what that meathead thinks".

Funny he sure did before the election.

Then he, and many other Republicans tried to pull this bullshit move. "well maybe you should have had a better candidate than Kamala". Sorry but the truth is, there was nothing wrong with Kamala. Biden did a great job.

And remember how many of you guys said "If one of the parties would just give us a younger candidate, we would vote for them instead". But then we gave you young Kamala and you still voted for the liar/crook Trump.

The fact you guys don't care how much money Trump's sons are making right now BECAUSE daddy is the President really pisses me off. Such unashamed hypocrites really.

You know what I love? Trump made such a big deal about Hillary's emails. Now Trump has email problems of his own. Emails between Bannon and Epstein, etc.

Kamala was a disaster for the democrat party. Showed no signs of competence as VP and spoke like a new age dingbat whenever put in front of a camera.

I share the lifestyle of millions of Boomer retirees. Married with an adult child and 3 grandchildren, I did a bit of volunteer work for several years and I aged out of that gig, but now my main activities are hiking, biking, bowling, and working out at a local gym. Even so, most of my time is sedentary, and I only get to the ten thousand steps that my watch wants about half the time (it gives me no "credit" for biking or lifting weights). The most time is spent reading and watching the telly.

I have no financial concerns, and can do almost literally anything I want, but growing up working-class has had its effects and I cannot force myself to waste money. I take some enjoyment in my cars and driving them aggressively, when it is safe to do so. I am a dinosaur in that regard, and MY car is a stick (wife drives a Tesla).

At 76, I am almost to the stage where my life revolves around doctor appointments, and my conversations with peers focus mainly on medical issues. "What a drag," as we used to say.

I was watching Most Expensivest hosted by 2Chainz. The episode about if society breaks down. Hurricanes, Earthquakes, a purge. What would you need to protect your home?

Check out this $10,000 survival bag. Has EVERYTHING in it for if the shit hit the fan. The coolest thing in the kit was this $2500 gold bar that was cut into 20 smaller bars that way you can use them as currency when no one is taking credit cards or cash.
