Found thirty bucks blowing down the street while I was riding my bike with my brothers. slammed on the brakes and caused a pile up. That was a lot of money for a kid. found another thirty blowing across a customers parking lot. Nobody in sight. Found a necklace I havent had looked at yet, don't know if its diamonds or zirconia. Biggest find was a mens wide gold band with diamonds down both sides just laying on the curb. Kicked it unknowingly saw some flashes and took it inside to the business I was at and asked if it belonged to anyone. Nobody claimed it, there was no identifying info on it so I kept it. Was worth about 5 grand 30 yrs ago. Took the diamonds and added em to the Wifes rings paid for it by giving the gold to the jeweler.

G-d. If that qualifies as "an item".

Otherwise, from what I can remember, $20, multiple times at the casino when someone left it in the slot machine (almost certainly some older person). All but one time I gave the money to the cashier and asked them to find the person on the video and give it to them. The only time I kept it was when the cashier said they wouldn't even bother to roll the cameras back and would just keep it so you might as well keep it.

That was a tough situation, I really didn't want it.

I did find a large bag of old hockey cards when I was a kid. My brother ripped.them.up on me one day, they.weren't in mint condition but I had some old Gretzkys in there too. All long gone now. They'd be worth thousands today I suppose.

We didn't do baseball cards. Neighbor kid was sort of an only child since his brother was much older than him. He had all the Marvel comics he wanted. This was in the early seventies. I shudder to think what they might be worth these days. Wife bought the same Barbie for both daughters....worth 10 grand each.

Well I guess "item" rules out finding the bank error where they forgot the decimal place and I had an extra quarter million showing on my balance ;)..... I called them though immediately so they couldn't try to blame me for their mistake if it took awhile to track down.

Other than that, I don't really know how much any of it was really worth except I used to find watches, jewelry, wallets, purses, bank cards, checkbooks, and ungodly numbers of key chains all the damn time when I worked at this place that was half golf course half RV park with a lake. I would usually find them either around the swimming pool area or on the golf course around the tees or greens. I always turned them in. One time there was a $1K reward for a big ass diamond tennis bracelet I found but I didn't even try to get it. I figured they would fire me if I took the woman's reward anyway but I assumed it was quite valuable. At the end of the season we would get bonuses and people could tip specific employees extra if they wanted and I always did a lot better than anybody else I worked with so I assumed my "rewards" were always paid that way. As a dreg grassmower I spent a ton of time looking down at the ground in front of me so it really was pretty easy for me to spot things.

CS Tongue and Wreath sword belt buckle.....Around 3K.

I found it the very first day I went relic hunting a powerline.

The next thing I found was a shell fragment and it was off to the races!

Over the years I found a few gold pieces. rings, and some silver that if added-up might reach 3K but no one item of the same value of that sword belt buckle.

Not that it really matters as I sell nothing I dig.

Prices for CW relics have fell off in recent years but the better stuff is holding.

I don't know it's true value (maybe 1K) but I found this TEXAS device while relic hunting in my extended AO.

It was found at a known camp site for part of the Army of Northern Virginia that Hood's Texas Brigade was attached to.

It looked to have something (maybe a bar pin back) applied to it.

I tracked the maker back to England so maybe a antebellum militia piece who's owner ended up in Confederate service and passed through my AO.

The holes in the star points allowed it to be sewn to hats and such.

About 25 years ago, I was inside a shop and I saw something flutter outside. I went out and it was pile of £20 notes, probably about £200. I picked it up and went into the shop. I then noticed a guy go out towards a car and then frantically search his pockets. I went out and asked what was wrong. He said he's lost some cash, a stack of £20 notes. I pulled them out and said, "Here you are, I found them lying on the ground". He was over the moon and was very grateful.

One morning I was walking into this little dive bar called the Timberwolf Tavern for some hair of the dog. I noticed that some young dude looking all geeked out was pacing around nervously looking around outside near the bus stop shelter. And he was carrying this black duffle bag.

Busses came and went. And he just kept pacing and looking around. We all noticed it. He looked suspicious. Was he going to rob the place? Then after a couple hours or so, he walked in the front door and went and sat down alone in a back corner. He didn't order a drink, he didn't say anything to anybody.

After sitting there nervously for another hour or so he bolted out the back door after first cracking it open and peeking out.

But he left that duffle bag behind.

We were all wondering what the hell was in it. Was it a bomb? What was that guy acting so weird?

Finally after a while. I went over there and opened it.

Inside that bag was stacks of cash and kilo packages of cocaine.
